Editors' Review

Corel PDF Fusion is an excellent choice for people who need a basic PDF program. You can edit and create PDF files with ease using the drag-and-drop editor.

Pros

Value for dollar: Corel PDF Fusion provides a very powerful PDF creator and editor at a reasonable price point. If you need to work with PDFs but are on a budget, this program is an excellent option.

Drag and drop: Corel PDF Fusion's drag-and-drop interface streamlines what could otherwise be a very cumbersome process.

File type versatility: No matter what source files you're sent, you'll likely be able to open them up for use in your PDF.

Cons

Image quality issues: If you want to include high-resolution graphics in your PDF documents, you might be disappointed by the way that this program renders those images. In our tests, more than one high-resolution image tested did not display at top quality within the document.

Bottom Line

Corel PDF Fusion provides a complete PDF solution. The drag-and-drop interface eases PDF creation and edits.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Corel PDF Fusion 1.14.

"Great program for multi-page PDF creation."

April 11, 2014

 |  Version: Corel PDF Fusion 1.11

Pros

1. The Assembly View, aka Drag 'n' Drop, was very easy to learn. I needed a quick way to combine one PDF file, and twelve JPG files into one PDF file. I clicked Open, selected my files, then dragged them into the new file, clicked File-Save-as, as I was done.

2. 30-day fully functional free trial

3. I have not tried the program using all document types, but Microsoft Office file types are supported, as are PDF & JPG.

Cons

1. I purchased this via Amazon, and the install that Amazon had did not work. Going direct to Corel, and it downloaded and installed correctly, and the first try.

2. Although I unchecked the box, and told it not to set my default PDF viewer to PDF Fusion, it did anyway. I have corrected that in Windows View Filetypes, but after running Fusion, it seems that my default viewer was hijacked again.

3. I haven't figured out a method to change the Default Font the program uses to create a new PDF document. It is a pain to change the font every time I create a new text-area.

Summary

Very good program to create / combine individual files into one PDF file. Amazon price was < $25. If your needs are simple, or just occasionally need this ability, you should at-least check out this program. With the 30-day trial, you can decide if it works for you, prior to spending money. I give it 4.5 stars.

"Good for what it was designed for."

January 15, 2013  |  By Lewispublishing

 |  Version: Corel PDF Fusion 1.11

Pros

Easy to install.
Takes Word, Excel and PDF's and can combine them as one PDF file in ANY order.

Cons

Not Adobe Acrobat or Nitro PDF Pro. Limited features.

Summary

For 24.99 on sale at the Corel site this was a bargain. A cheap way to combine MS Office docs and PDF's into one neat document. It will even let you put the pages in any order. You get what you pay for. If you want the best, you have to pay more.

"Very Poor Software, Definitely Not Recommended"

December 23, 2012  |  By mistertee

 |  Version: Corel PDF Fusion 1.11

Pros

Does an "OK" job with a few of it's functions

Cons

Rather odd GUI and several features that don't work or are missing. Very strange considering Corel has now "upgraded" the program to the "Service Pack 1" level.

Complete lack of support other than "paid premium" and no user forum.

Summary

Let me begin by saying that I'm a fan of several Corel programs, specifically Pant Shop Pro and Video Studio. I've used both of these for years (purchasing many worthwhile upgrades along the way) and for the most part have been totally satisfied. That said, "PDF Fusion" has got to be one of the worst applications I've seen from ANY developer in years!

For starters, several of of it's key features just don't work properly. Importing Word or Excel files is impossible without disabling the programs integrated MS Office plugin. Rather you'll have to disable this feature and let Fusion import such files through it's file reader which doesn't always retain the original formatting. Also, it seems to be impossible to import a text file. You'll have to find a way to pre-convert it to word or pdf before Fusin will accept it. I also didn't like the fact that when adding text, the text background is white rather than transparent. The problem is, if you want to insert text on images or non-editable objects, the white background box will cover a portion of whatever is behind it. In it's favor I'll admit that it seems to do a decent job of importing image and pdf files. From what I've seen in surfing for reviews of this application there are surely many other problems (including installation issues in some cases).

I must also mention that the program's UI is nowhere near as user-friendly as one might expect after looking at Corel's screen shots and demo videos. Generally speaking, I have no issues with "different" UI's as long as they are intuitive and functional. At first glance, the dropbox that opens when one launches the program seems like a nice touch. And it would be if so many file types didn't crash the program often requiring the user to kill the executable in task manager just to escape. Aside from the fact that this is generally frustrating, it also means you're back to square-one of your project. But assuming one gets past the file import issues, the 3 available workspace views are somewhat confusing to navigate between. I found myself spending way to much time clicking around the program to get where I wanted to go.

Lastly, there is the support issue. Basically there is none! Corel will provide free support for installation issues encounted for a few weeks after purchase. After that, you're on your own unless you want to purchase their "Premium Support" on a per-incident basis. Without this, you can't even send a support inquiry by email. Rather, after forcing you through a maze of FAQ and knowledge base pages, Corel's support site will finally suggest that you post your problem in their user forum. The only problem is, Corel does not host a forum for this particular product. AAAAARG! If only I could get a refund on this hopeless software!

Knowing what I know, I wouldn't even suggest bothering to install the trial version but certainly do so if you need to satisfy your curiousity. If it works for you, by all means post a postive review here. My recommendation would be to give "NitroPDF Pro (Version 8) a try. I discovered this after dumping PDF Fusion and believe me, it does everying most users could possibly want and more with a brilliant UI and first class tech-support at no cost. Unfortunately is costs about twice as much but in this case you really do get what you pay for.

"Only paid support!! Doesn't install properly."

September 04, 2012  |  By dtyle1

 |  Version: Corel PDF Fusion 1.11

Pros

None, it doesn't work and they want me to pay more money.

Cons

No live support whatsoever. One day turnaround to have your questions answered AFTER YOU PAY MORE MONEY FOR EACH SUPPORT QUESTION.

Very limited online support database which drives more money to their product support.

Summary

I cannot get a refund and they won't contact me. Buyer beware!
