"Contains a load of malware. Don't download"

    February 18, 2014  |   By rfilcoff

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

Nice display of temperature for each core: (currrent temp, min temp and max temp.
    Also display processors frequency

    Cons

The amount of pop-ups that the malware that accompanied this download/installation was enough to render my computer virtually useless. I wasted several hours cleaning up the mess that this software left on my computer.

    Summary

    Avoid this software.

    "Works great."

    November 13, 2013  |   By swanjame

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

I run it on a Windows 7 notebook, a Windows 7 netbook, and a Windows 8 tablet, all dual core. It was very helpful in diagnosing and fixing a longstanding problem with overheating in the notebook.

    Cons

Absolutely none. It installs easily and I have it start with Windows.

    Summary

Keep an eye on your temps!

    "Works perfectly - READ instructions"

    October 10, 2013  |   By alurlyrx

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

Asus Sabertooth FX 990 FX2.0 with AMD 8350 CPU ... all eight cores register temperature perfectly. No beefs. I've been using this desktop gadget and Core Temp app for over a year on two other machines with 4 cores with no problems.

    Cons

You have to be able to read and follow directions with the capacity of a middle school student if you don't want to accept the free offers. Given that the only thing that males read are stop signs, it is a bit of a challenge. If you use CNET and can't work your way through the free offers, I wouldn't embarrass myself and post it in the reviews. The only thing I noticed is that I had to go to an additional site to download the Core Temp app. It had one button to skip all free offers. It is very ethical.

    Summary

Seriously, I wouldn't admit that I had trouble installing and using this app. It is as easy to use and performs perfectly. Most people don't need to see their core temps unless they're overclocking. I can't believe someone with the knowledge of overclocking would have a problem with this program.

"Software itself is awesome! Careful which link youclick"

    September 4, 2013  |

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

No installation required. Runs standalone. lightweight. Fast accurate info reported. My fan has been seizing up and I can get an alert if my cpu is overheating before the laptop shuts down

    Cons

interface is a bit outdated, but doesnt affect functionality. Just looks very windows 95-ish

    Summary

This is NOT the core temp app. This is the desktop gadget. Click "direct download link" below the "cnet installer" download button. That gets you the zip with the gadget file. Run it and the gadget shows right up. THEN click the "get core temp" link on the gadget. On THAT page, DON'T click the big download link! Click "more downloads" then click your windows bit version. You get another zip with no installer crap...just the program exe.

    Updated on Sep 4, 2013

Correct you should only be downloading two ZIP files from cnet and softpedia. The zips contain the actual compiled programs and don't require installation. If you are downloading an EXE, DON'T run it! Try a different link.

    "Works fine"

    August 11, 2013  |   By Druxzul

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

    Works like it should

    Cons

None that I can see, besides the bloatware that comes with the installation, but that's CNET's fault.

    Summary

Great little gadget to monitor CPU temp.
For those of you who can't get it to work,
here is what you do. First download the gadget
here at cnet making sure that you don't install
the bloatware. Next go to here:
    http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=74793&t=0&i=1
install the download. Next get the gadget open and then open
the core temp program. The gadget should now display the temps
    of your CPU

    "AVOID AVOID AVOID"

    August 3, 2013  |   By themoon24

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

    - NONE
    (*LOL at needing 10 characters*)

    Cons

    - Installs everything BUT the program EVEN if you go through a rediculous amount of care to avoid it
    - IMPOSSIBLE to uninstall

    Summary

Avoid this like the plague! Not only do you have to have a master's degree to ensure you do not accidentally install all the other programs and toolbars they "add" to this installation, but after you install it, they want you to install it AGAIN from another site.

THEN good luck uninstalling this POS because it apparently adds itself all over your computer EXCEPT where you can remove programs.

I've been burned before from downloading from CNet and their "5 star" programs. I WILL NEVER download anything from CNet or visit their site again.

"Product does NOT have crapware/spyware, HOWEVER,"

    August 1, 2013  |   By Got_Milk-

    Version: Core Temp Gadget 2.7

    Pros

    Nice design

    Cons

    No troubleshooting

    Summary

Many people put that there is crapware, spyware, etc. There was even a supposed "software engineer" that claimed this. Look, CNET now makes money from selling these ads. All's you have to do is DECLINE them when you are doing the install, and it will not install on your computer. For example, when you go to actually install it, go to "advanced install" uncheck the box to allow them to install the browser thing, after that you will get two pop up windows that state "do you agree to the terms." MOST people think this is the agreement for the product, but if you look to the left, its actually for two separate programs. If you decline both of these, the Core Temp WILL install without additional programs and/or browser changes. These bad reviews are simply an error on the part of the people who downloaded this because they did not read before agreeing, etc. Furthermore, this is on CNET, not the product itself, so reviewing the product as low stars doesn't make any sense. Is it borderline shady on behalf of CNET? Yes, but that's what most ad companies do now of days. Just be careful and read! As for the product itself, I cannot really rate it because when I did install it, it states "Core Temp is off." When I try to enable it, it states it cannot read my memory, and yes I have an intel core 5. So i really have no idea what's going on. As for the design, its simple, a tiny gadget, and looks nice. I do believe this could be a great product for some, it just didn't work for me.
