"A great find!"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Fast, easy, customizable, accurate and free. It even previews documents so you don't have to open them.
Cons
My only complaint is that there's no system integration. I have to open the progam to search.

"Lightning Fast"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Indexed my 250GB HDD in under 5 minutes. Finds files in the blink of an eye and it's easy to find what I'm looking for. Very impressive software and at the right price for me...FREE!

"Great product, but interferes with Outlook backup"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
A fabulous and fast find utility. Preview pane for documents of most useful types (e.g., no need to open Outlook to view Outlook mail messages found by Copernic).
Cons
Running on a Windows 98 machine seemed to be unstable during initial indexing.
On an XP machine, Copernic interferes with backup of Outlook files. Had to shut Copernic down to copy/backup .pst files (pausing indexing is not enough). It took a lot of searching to figure this out, so I'm sharing it here.

"Excellent! The best desktop search utility around!"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
It can index a lot of files by default, way more than any other desktop search utility out there, such as Google Dekstop Search, Yahoo Desktop Search or MSN Desktop Search to name a few (I have tried them). What I really like is that even though it may not index a specific type of files by default, you can manually add another type of files by yourself in the Options/Advanced window. Just add the extension of the file and check the option that best describes what kind of file it is (Text, Picture, Music or Video) or if it is a type whose content is of no interest (such as an EXE file, for example), just check the option "File Name Only". I love that!
Their latest version 1.5 build 642 released on March 31st, 2005 is much better than the previous version. I can now index my Mozilla Firefox history instead of Internet Explorer's and I did have problems indexing PDF files before but not anymore.
I definitely recommend this program and as a matter of fact, I just recommended it to two of my coworkers after it enabled me to find in a couple of seconds an e-mail that I had sent a long time ago.
I am using it right now on a simple computer with a 600MHz Pentium 3 processor and 512MB of memory and it is fine. I also use it at home on a faster computer and no problems whatsoever.
Cons
Even though it does list files whose names or contents contain the key words you typed, I wish there was an option to check in the Advanced Search column to reduce the list to file names or contents only. No big deal though as it is possible to type @filename= in the query field but a neat option to click on would be so much simpler.
There are really no other bad things to say about it.

"A great program, but..."
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Quick and efficient; great interface. There is a preview for many file types, so no need to open the file in the native application.
Cons
Does not index text in TIF files. Those of us who use TIF for document scans should better try Lookout or something else.

"Great & useful"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Does what its meant to do very well & fast.
Cons
Not enough options & customizablity.

"Excellent idea, terrible execution"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Great organizational structure for making searches and showing results. Definitely better than Google desktop search in that regard. I really wanted this program to work, because I do lots of Internet research.
Cons
Before the indexing could finish the program caused my computer to shut down. One time the computer went into high speed, making lots of noise (like a vacum cleaner) and then the screen went blank. Also, during indexing, it took it long periods of time to index some simple PDF files (always getting hung up on the same ones) and it kept starting over, indexing the same files repeatedly. I had to unplug my computer to get it going again. I experimented several times, and each time a system restore ended the problem of shutdowns. This was just too frightening so I gave up.

"Great Idea! Computer unstable after installing"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
Love that it works on W98, since others require XP. It's a useful tool to find things quickly. I love the concept and the execution when it's working and not causing my system to lockup.
Support has been good about answering emails.
Cons
I installed on a variety of computer types includeing W98SE and XP. It seems that in each case the systems became unstable afterwards. One W98 machine will no longer shut down. Another has an application that can not invoke with Copernic in background. My Spool32 crashes when printing from Outlook with Copernic running, but resumes fine when I kill it.
So, if Copernic can figure out why their software causes system instability, this would be a fanstastic find.

"indexing takes forever, tries to send some data to the company"
Version: Copernic Desktop Search 1.5 build 642
Pros
don't know any yet
Cons
This software is indexing my 20 GB hard drive already 4 weeks. For 4 weeks it runs almost all day and all night.
My pc is Pentium 4 3GHz with 1 GB memory.
I'm giving it one more week before I uninstall.
Also I noticed it sometimes tries to connect to the internet and send something
to the company. My ZoneAlarm alerts me everytime copernic desktop tries to connect to the internet and send something. Why ? I had to block this program from accessing the internet, I would never use it if I could not block it, who knows what it tries to send.
