    "I absolutely Love this game!!!"

    October 5, 2008  |   By theblueandthegray

    Version: Console Classix 3.8

    Pros

Just like any TECMO BOWL FAN LOOKING FOR THE BEST FOOT BALL GAME EVER TECMO BOWL STYLE, LADYS AND GENTLE MEN...... THIS IS THE GAME!!!

    Cons

There's nothing in this game that I don't like. Hey! Sometimes that's just the way the ball bounces!

    Summary

TECMO SUPER BOWL THREE: FINAL EDITION is definitely the best game of the series. You can change your offensive and defensive plays, and also call audibles right there at the line. There's lots of plays, and you can always change the play book to meet your game plan. You can throw bullet or touch passes. There's fumbles, int's and injures. There's even bad weather some times, and different stadiums to play in. You can dive to avoid fumbling, or to dive into the end zone. There is also road and home jerseys which I love. There's super star editor, where you can make your own star player, you can watch him as he improves. I love the old players from that time period, and the even bring player from the distant past like Joe Nameth, or Joe Montana if you play a while(3 seasons?). And the computer does not get harder and harder as the season progresses, everything stays compatible. There's even more than I can tell, but you'll have to buy the game(on eBay)and find out for your self. And I know, you will not be disappointed!!! So let's have a game all you TECMO BOWL FANS!!!

    "Legal, hassle-free emulation!"

    September 29, 2008  |   By savedR

    Version: Console Classix 4.04

    Pros

Great interface, great gamepad/controller support. Really good game selection. The emulators all work very well, they've picked the best available. Some support server-side savestates--wow. Can't wait till they all do!

    Cons

Well, it's not free, but it wouldn't be. There's a pause while you download each game you play, which can take up to two minutes for larger games, like huge SNES RPG's. The ease of use, expansive selection and great gamepad support are well worth it!

    Summary

Console Classix is the easiest legal way to play old console games, period. The only system even approaching something similar is the Virtual Console system on Nintendo's Wii, which has far less selection and is actually much more expensive, charging per title (as much as $12) rather than offering a subscription.

Console Classix only works on Windows PCs, and is somewhat limited in that respect. However, it's relatively easy to run Windows these days; I'm not entirely certain it wouldn't run on Wine in Linux, and I bet almost anything it has no problem with Parallels on Mac OSX. I haven't tried it though, so YMMV.

One area where CC really shines is its gamepad support. If you own any cheap USB gamepad (like the kinds available from Wal-mart for $10), you can hook it up and use it for every console CC offers. What's more, you only have to configure your gamepad ONCE; the Console Classix configuration you set up once carries through to work with every emulator, meaning you don't have to redo setup to switch from SNES to Genesis games, for example.

The experience of playing games on Console Classix is great because their emulators are great. They use my personal favorite SNES emulator, Zsnes, and it shows; emulation on every console is pretty much 100% perfect. Because I happen to recognize many of the fan-written, open-source emulator programs they use, I'd like to see them advertise that fact a little better, maybe presenting information to the user about the history and creators of each emulator.

It's very hard to argue against Console Classix, in fact. It's impossible even for original content publishers; companies like Nintendo of America have tried unsuccessfully many times to shut the service down. Because they tightly control the ROMs available, they are technically a game rental service, and thus enjoy full protection under the law. That won't change any time in the near future, so enjoy it now! Give them a try, pay the measely $5 a month, and relive your old console memories!

    Version: Console Classix 4.04

    Pros

An extensive library with games that load promptly and play perfectly.

    Cons

I would love if International Superstar Soccer Deluxe for the SNES and Genesis systems was included in the game library.

    "hours of nostalgic fun!"

    August 17, 2008  |   By Trendkiller

    Version: Console Classix 4.04

    Pros

This program/site brought back all the games from my early childhood that I thought I would never get tp play again! I just redownloaded it for a new system of mine, I have actually been using this client for over three years!

    Cons

You have to pay like 5 dollars a month to play the SNES games, but there is still original NES and Atari games for free. There have been only two of my favorite games I have been unable to find. I really wish they had them.
