This activity monitor has many of the surveillance skills we like to see, although it isn't completely veiled. Computer Guard's features are housed in a condensed main window secured with a master password. The program's settings are simple to configure in testing, although sessions are limited to 30 minutes during the trial. We're able to schedule application usage and block access to specific applications, capture screenshots, and log all allowed activity. You'll also be able to quickly blacklist sites by URL or keyword, although it only works with Internet Explorer and you'll have to list your banned sites that are accessible via the World Wide Web with and without the www prefix to halt them from loading. In visible mode, users will receive a tiny pop-up from the system tray informing them of its processes. While in stealth mode, the program simply won't load the page and offers up no explanation. Our concern is that while in stealth, we still find the program listed in the task manager and could easily shut it down without the password. Although it is a skillful monitoring tool, keep in mind that users with computer know-how can render it null and void instantly.
