"One of the best out there."

    September 14, 2013  |   By DaGoodPirate

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

1.) Covers everything if you download all the parts.
    2.) Easy to configure.
3.) Doesn't bog down the OS.
    4.) Has an actual HIDS.
5.) Abilitiy to sandbox browser and applications.

    Cons

5.) Does install needless programs like Geekspeek and Comodo Browser, but both can be easily uninstalled. Just make sure to go into the directories to check that all traces are gone.

    Summary

My favorite free internet suite avaiable. The only other suite that trumphs this is Kaspersky which is pay by subscription. I will say that if you are unexperienced with security software and creating firewall rules and exceptions, that this probably won't be the best option for you. But if you know what you're doing, then this suite has a lot of features and settings to make the most of.

I've never had to deal with any false positives. The most nuisance I had to deal with is from the HIDS component asking me to allow/block certain new programs from running. But hey, that is its job. I'd rather have it do that than not stopping a malicious program from running at all. I don't have much to say on how well it removes malicious code, but that's only because I've never gotten any. And I contribute that to Comodo. It has an easy to read network analysis that tells me which programs/services are reaching out; it gives me there location on the hard drive and the option to terminate its connection or all connections.

Firewall rules are easy to add, remove, or edit. I can easily configure it to allow this specific range of IP or MAC addresses to broadcast out and to block all others if somehow either gets spoofed. Same thing for all inbound connections and applications.

The Rescue Disk feature allows the user to create a bootable disk/usb that if the computer becomes infected, simply put it in, boot to it from BIOS, and run all the scans and removal programs on the system before allowing it to boot. A very nice extra to have if you don't have a backup or an installation disk to rebuild the system from.

It also allows for easy, just one click, to start any internet browser in a sandbox mode. So to all those Facebook gamers and porn viewers, this is a necessity to you if you don't want viruses and malware. It sets up a "playground" that you can do whatever you want in and it keeps it completely seperated from the system, and when it closes, it discards everything. Works exactly like a virtual OS.

    "Stay away from this one"

    September 4, 2013  |

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

    None that I can see

    Cons

    Too many false positives
    Very poor support

    Summary

Support staff thinks that everything that goes wrong is always the end user's fault.

There are many AV/Security programs out there that do not carry the baggage this one does.

    "Horrible -- or great?"

    August 22, 2013  |   By yellerc

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

If I indeed had a virus (no real symptoms except slowdown, but Comodo said it found -- and cleaned--two) that was what made my computer go haywire when I tried to use Comodo, then they did an adequate job of helping me recover from a complete crash that kept from even being able to start in safe mode. Geekbuddy phone technician (which is what I had to use since my laptop was stone dead) was in India and a bit bored, so I didn't get much sympathy or humor, and often had to say the same thing several times before he heard me but eventually he got me up and running again, possibly better than before.

    Cons

I spent over an hour, in online chat and on the phone, trying to solve a problem that *seemed* to have been created by running Comodo. But maybe I had a very sophisticated piece of malware that only Comodo was finding and responding to (TrendMicro gave me a clean bill of health before I ever tangled with Comoda).

    Summary

After running Comodo I spent several of the most stressful hours in recent memory. If I hadn't read the glowing reviews by CNET and others, I would be cursing them to high heaven. But given those reviews, maybe the crash was a result of malware and their support helped me get rid of it. Just don't know.

"There are a few problems in Comodo which are very bad"

    August 19, 2013  |   By salesalex

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

Comodo internet security does not slow down computer and has the full set of security solutions for free (antivirus, firewall and sandbox=virtual space for suspicious programs and browsers).

    Cons

1.There is NO RESET or RESTORE DEFAULTS option in this program or any Comodo's security product !? When I wanted to change some settings to their defaults I had to do that manually , for some settings I didn't find the way to revert them = not even after reinstallation of Comodo CIS so now I have to use other AV .
2.Every user (even the guest or 'limited user account') can easily disable Comodo by right click on taskbar icon , unless administrator protects Comodo with the password.

    Summary

I've been using Comodo CIS for some time and recommending this program to people , but until those two problems are fixed I will not install it on any computer .

    Updated on Aug 19, 2013

correction, there is a reset option only for 'virtual kiosk'(sandbox)

"Installed Comodo and lost all my desktop gadgets."

    August 14, 2013  |   By frliss

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

Didn't have it installed long enough to find any.

    Cons

Lost all my Microsoft supplied desktop gadgets. When I tried their "Geek" support service I was told that this is a pay service and I would have to subscribe. I want my gadgets back!

"Almost lost my machine (Vista under Bootcamp on MacPro)"

    August 13, 2013  |

    Version: Comodo Internet Security 6.2

    Pros

None I can think of if I was to lose my machine and my 7TB of data on it. And I do use a computer for a living: dimmerlight.com.

    Cons

Several red flags right off the bat - machine started rebooting itself right after windows login.

Two days after install my machine started cycling on reboot and I couldn't even get to Safe Mode.

Thanks to System Restore I banished COMODO forever.

I know it's free, but free stuff is supposed to help you out nicely until you decide to buy. Great free is a good marketing for good stuff and bad free means you just lost a customer.

    Summary

Verdict: Back up your stuff in case you try it and need to System Restore later - you may lose all you have got.
