    Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.25.378

    "Insane!"

    by Chainmail2006 on July 10, 2008

Pros: The interface is improved. It's free, it's light, it's strong, to strong! When I'm at my computer, I want to use it, not fight with a firewall.

Cons: Wanting to use Antivir Personal Premium that I got through trial pay, free. I hunted a firewall for my new Vista computer. Theres only a few free ones that I'd even look at. Comodo was first & ended up the first app I used Revo uninstaller on! It's mind boggling that it has any good reviews at all. It's plain old stubborn & stupid! Continual pop ups over & over & over with the same questions made it nearly impossible to use my computer. Then it didn't want to close & uninstall. Thank God for revo. Comodo's always been a hard head but this was insane. It was almost like it didn't know what a rule is. Well, Zone Alarms in now. Problem solved! The download.com editor who reviewed this app should be ashamed of him/her self.

It really doesn't matter at all what you folks believe my level of expertise is! Not one bit! You geniuses have at it, I don't have time to argue with trash. You folks say it only asks once but your dead wrong! it's the exact same question over & over again, all the time. You folks depending on free security are the ones lacking PC knowledge. My computers & peace of minds more important then to depend on nagging, free crap. Funny thing. I'm using ESET Smart Security behind an encrypted hardware router & I've "NEVER" been hacked. The plain truth is, I don't need a software firewall at all so light is great with me. While your telling this garbage to allow, I'll be doing my thing & having fun. Now, I seriously doubt you experts have a clue of how to keep a PC clean & hacker proofed.

I seriousl doubt you know what a firewall is supposed to do. It is a security doorman that does the equivalent of vetting who comes in or leaves. Any new changes to your PC SHOULD be checked by the user, YOU, and not by the program's decision only. The initial annoying popups are easily understood, easily configurable and lets YOU know that the program is working and not just making willy-nilly decisions without your authority. Yes, it can be annoying at first installation, but once you know how to confguire the very simple settings, you will get to appreciate a full blown "FREE" USER targetted (against suspect silent programmed) firewall. As for removal, I have not had any problems on any PC's that it has been removed from. Most clients wanted it re-installed soon after anyway.

you just don't know how to use it this is not for beginner users but advanced users. if you want comodo to remember you click the check box that tells comodo to remember it. im a computer tech so i know how to use a computer vary well (im not saying that you don't) personally i love this app! you can also get comodos internet security suite that includes comodos antivirus.

I've used this FW since I switched from the free Zonealarm when it became too bloated. Sure I had a lot of pop-ups to deal with at first, whenever a program is first used under CFP it wants to know what you want to allow it to do, however as others here state, I've had no repeat requests from CFP when I've used the same program in the same way. Updated programs or using them in a new way to CFP will lead to more requests to allow/disallow obviuosly. I've no idea why people rant about the continual pop-ups other than guess that it's got to be something with the way that they have set it up, the learning mode helps avoid much of this. I want CFP to work, if I get a response from it when I do something new, that shows me that it's on the ball, I really like CFP and think it's the best free firewall I've ever had, I've tried a few. Give it a fair crack, use it as it's recommended to, both in the help files and forums which do help if you have a problem and I think you'll appreciate it.

I have been using this for quite long time, didnt find any issues with this firewall...for me its the best.

I thank the Lord every day that I don't have to depend on free security software! This is one of those that made me thankful. Complete garbage! Those who can tolerate it's ignorance are so themselves! help files & user forum are a waste of time, period! Imagine that! The best thing these idiots can do is, remove it permanently.

you're 100% correct, this is one of the worse, if not THE WORST program ever made. anyone who knows anything about computers will tell you this is total garbage. any good review is more than likely from a newbie who doesn't know any better. this rates up there with spyware terminator as garbage...

the pop ups only come the first time you use a certain program. what are you talking about? Besides no other firewall has the malware defense ability like Comodo's.

  • reply by: thegundoctor on August 4, 2008

Besides the help files, there is a very large user forum where you can find out how to use and ENJOY using the firewall. You can set it on training mode to eliminate most or all of those "pop-ups" that are asking for program permissions. Once it has had time to learn about your computing environment you should set it back to safe or clean mode.

I uninstalled it just fine and had no problems. Of course I reinstalled it soon after because it is an excellent firewall.

...and one thing: no offense but just because you found it not to your liking doesn't mean the editor who reviewed this firewall should be ashamed of themselves.

I've read many complaints about CFP by other users, but the thing is, I've never ever experienced what they all had experienced, and now I've never ever experienced what you have experienced. One of the first things they say is that CFP doesn't seem to remember things well. I don't think so. Try having the exact, same programme performing the exact, same functions. I never got any alert more than one time after the first time CFP alerted me. I wouldn't say CFP doesn't remember rules well. Instead, CFP is just very much more sensitive than virtually all other firewalls out there that it lets you control the slightest of things that are happening in your computer. So while 2 alerts look 99% alike, they're actually referring to 2 different processes at a very specific level. Due to this nature, people like me love CFP. Another thing is that they say CFP refuses to uninstall itself. Well I haven't tried it because I don't uninstall things the normal way, but the Revo way too. Lol! So I've no comment on that.

No help file can change the ignorance in this firewall. Besides, to late! It's out-a-here for the last time!

  • reply by: blindtwelve on July 11, 2008

1 star? There is a lot more to the program than you are apparently aware of. I never have any of the issues you are referring to. Read the help manual if you're that clueless.
