"Worked great for removing Google Redirect Virus (GRV)"
Pros
Not much tech savvy needed. Had already tried TDSSKiller, recommended by damn near everyone. To no avail. Quick download. Ran quickly. ( 12 min ) Fixed my prob., no prob since.
Cons
Not enough info on whether or not to uninstall. Little leary, since it isn't showing in my control panel. And have seen others having a a problem with uninstall. Though I did see a review of someone running once a week. (?).
Summary
Xp User. Husband surfing in deep waters, hit a sandbar. LOL. Yes, I have changed my security settings. FOR HIM. I always check CNET reviews first, before I dwld anything. Free-is my budget. ComboFix is a great application. It gives a detailed log, which can be reviewed, ( I like the guys at techguy.org and bleepingcomputers.com )I believe some con reviews delve from not knowing to: Do some housekeeping first. A simple MS Cleandisk, Ccleaner, IOBit, AVG scan (s)- Norton, Mac --- whatever,,, before you dwld and/or use any software/application/program. Less for Combofix to fool with. Do a back up to a thumb drive. (just in case, good policy to have when dwlg any system changing app, sftwre or pgm.) 1) Save to desktop ONLY, and rename. 2)Close ALL running programs. 3) Get offline. 4) Turn off ALL virus protection and firewalls. (Norton is a *****!) 5) Get a cup of tea or a beer, Sit down and Pay attention! If you do not have Recovery console installed, Combofix will alert, choose YES. ( You will need to plug in if an external modem, when dwld complete-unplug ) 6) Restart, even if not prompted to. 7)Turn Virus protection and firewalls back on, before you do anything!!!! Personally, I restarted twice, did a clndsk, did a ckdsk, restarted again. I'm a worry wart. Everything is great. I could not be happier.
