"Works as I expected: produces outline, key, color pic"
Version: Color by Number 2.5
Pros
It works as you expect - selecting different coloring media types (e.g. acrylic paint, pencils etc.) produce coloring outlines with different degrees of detail (more detailed for pencils, less for painting) & color keys reflecting the media selected.
Cons
Generating an outline that is easy to color in is quite dependent on the selection of the original photo and the coloring material (pencil type, acrylic paint etc.) - very detailed pictures can have too many areas to easily color.

"Elegant software"
Version: Color by Number 2.5
Pros
If you have some photos that you want to break into patterns this is the product to use.
The colors delight and the patterns are beautiful.Cons
I can not think of problems with this software..
I do not use the numbers when I paint.. I just use the colors I want to use..Summary
I spend hours transfering the patterns on to tracing paper so I can transfer the pattern to my watercolor paper.. and I never get bored..
I trace the lines from my (paper) printer printout with a good thin marker.. then I rub pencil (carbon) on the back of the tracing paper and then trace the pattern onto the watercolor paper..
Also I have used acrilics.. and have transfered the lines on to canvass..
I purchased the other paint my number software product available on the net and continue to use Color by Numbers..

"Absolutely Useless"
Version: Color by Number 2.5
Pros
The rendering of your image into a color by number template works okay -- not great by passable.
Cons
The colors don't match up with the original artwork. But the most important thing is that the numbers are in a 2-point font: you can't read them and there's no way to enlarge the numbers, so you can't really do anything with the final output.
Summary
Maybe there are other usage for this software -- but it's clearly not a color-by-number program. I wasted 2 hours exploring the software & trying to make it work.
