"Pity Microsoft found this too difficult"
Version: CodeTwo Attach Unblocker 1.2.4
What MS should have done, and would have if it weren't so nanny arrogant
Pity it doesn't have a checkbox list of all the extension MS has decided "might" be to dnagerous for the likes of you to have any choice over
Outlook 'secuity' a classic bit of MS ovebearing Nannyism and total arrogance.
tt decided that you shall not be able to open a whole host of files if their extensions are on the ."you never know, they mught just be dangerous" list.
And to componud this unvleivably irritaing "you are not responsible enough to decide for yourself" attitude.
1) The default setting for windows is to hide the extensions anyway.
2) One of the official 'solutions' is ot get the person to send it with a different extension (see also point 1)
3) The other offical 'solution' is to ask some who may not know what an extesison is (see point 1 and 2) to edit their registry: -A damn site more dangerous to all than allowing us to make up our own minds.
4) It still downloads the file taking up your bandwidth and possibly download limit, but won't let you open it.
Code Two is one of many who stepped in to the breach and did what MS should have done in the first place. - I picked it because it was the most recently posted.
It goes into the Home section of the ribbon. - You add the extesnion you want to be free to choose, restart outlook and hey presto, you can now actually open the file that Outlokk felt 'might' be dangerous.
Now if only code two could include a check box list of all the 'standard' extensons for "MS might be too dangerous files", we could see exactly the extent of Microsoft's unbearable arrogance. (Which of course, they have defended by saying "You are not fit to decide what you want to open, so we have decided for you' Live with it, or edit your registry")
By the way, tthis one DOES work with Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) and Outlok 2010
