"This product has changed my life. Get through your mail faster!"

by dotnetgeek on May 26, 2006

Pros: This product is amazing. It has changed the way that I deal with my day to day information overload.

Some of the features that I absolutely can not live without now are:

Prioritized (color coded) view of your inbox - IMS will scan your existing mail to determine who it is that you communicate most with then color code those contacts. At a glance I can immediately tell what emails I need to look at first. (You can even set up contacts it misses).

Assignment of 'Topics' - Gone are the days where all the mail from John goes in the 'John' folder. Now I can EASILY assign topics to the mail that I read. When I am done with it I can file it away. IMS will even make the folder for me to file it in. It then remembers all the previous topics.

Auto save sent emails - This feature is AWESOME!. I no longer need to have a flakey outlook rule that sometimes would turn itsself off. When I send a mail, I can assign it to a topic. IMS will automatically save the sent mail in the same topic folder. When I get a reply IMS remembers and sets the topic of the inbound mail automatically.....very cool.

All the workflow stuff is amazing - I find this to follow the 'Getting things done' system. When you get a mail, you act on it immediately. You can:

-defer it until a later time and date (and IMS will take it out of your inbox and have it show back up at a time of your choosing)

-Delegate it and IMS will make an Outlook task for you to assign to someone. it will also create a task for you to follow up with that person.

-Schedule it and it will make an 'Appointment' item in outlook. The cool thing is that each time, the contents of the email are attached so when you act on the item you can see what it is that you had to do.

    Real big time savers!

Cons: There is not much I dont like about IMS Pro. The one thing that comes to mind is that when items get filed to topic folders, if the topic folders are in a personal folder as opposed to the exchange folder, I am unable to find items as related. Luckily I use Lookout(pre msn search) to find emails when needed.

Also the way in which the topics gets filed is a bit cludgy. I would like to file items right to the root of my Personal Folders instead I need to at least specify on folder deep. (Personal Folders/Topics/[topic] vs PersonalFolders/[topic]).

All in all, if you have a bunch of email to manage, GET THIS PRODUCT. IT WORKS!
