Classic Shell is a collection of features that were available in older versions of Windows but are removed from Vista and Windows 7. It has a classic start menu for Windows 7. It adds a toolbar for Windows Explorer and supports a variety of smaller features. Classic Shell adds some missing features to Windows 7 and Vista like a classic start menu, toolbar for Explorer and others.
What's new in this version: Version 3.6.5 has fixed a crash bug in the start menu for some 64-bit systems.

Just download, install and change the settings to taste. And BAM you've fixed one (of many) probs with Win 8. A life saver and really, the only way I'm going to keep Windows 8 on my computer. I hate the Start Menu and tiles.

Summary
1) Saves time when I need a program I can't remember by name, but I know is there somewhere... Also, it's unobstrusive and familiar.
2) The Start Screen has a lot of tiles I simply won't or don't need to use, and, to say the least, wastes too much room for some hundreds of games I've.
3) Lotta options make it even better. I really like to hide the "Logoff" option so users have to restart (boot) system; hot-swapping users never worked for me. Also, my full name doesn't need to be in the logoff button, making the menu pannel too wide.
4) I just miss TrueTransparency and WinFlip over Windows XP. Maybe they could add something like Mac's First Row ? -

Summary
I know that Metro UI is great for touching but the way Microsoft forces me to use the Metro Start Screen is unfriendly. I was hoping that Microsoft would change their mind to bring back Start menu but now I don't need anymore. Classic Shell brings the things we're familiar with and up to now, I'm totally satisfied.
