    "A truly remarkable program"

    November 11, 2009  |   By marathong

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

As many have said before me it finds stuff that others don't even know exist. It's ability to dig deep amazes me.

    Cons

The cons are that it doesn't get the exposure that it deserves a sleeper and a keeper

    Summary

I unstalled it once because I didn't take the time to learn about it. It sure stays busy with updates. I also feel that the confidence factor just wasn't there. We often feel that free and open source products just can't be that good. I would rather have good performance than a fancy interface. Sometimes open source lacks flash and glitz but you find out it does a better job. If you try it and like it contribute one way or another even five dollars says alot about Thank You

"It found virusus in my backup disk."

    May 24, 2009  |   By askPrins

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

I've used Macafee,NOD32 and Kaspesky, which all reported the virus in my drive and "cleaned" them (Removed from the disk). However my computer was acting strange from time to time.ClamWin found a few viruses. I am so impressed.

    Cons

I haven't detect anything so far.

    Summary

Now I'll sound like a saleman(I am not). Try this product and save your money and time for something better.
Can you imagine the best things in the world could be free sometimes? :)

    "Decent, no real time though"

    May 10, 2009  |   By a_pop

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

This thing is so light, and takes up practically no cpu power or memory. Really is amazing. Detects almost everything too.

    Cons

no realtime, which is a pro and a con. Real time means resources from your pc, but also is a lot of protection. I prefer to conserve my computer's power for the task i am doing, so i like no realtime, and some scans, but it just depends on the person

"Slow, but excellent at detecting known malware"

    March 12, 2009  |   By SunnyvaleSecurityGeek

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

ClamWin's engine (ClamAV) has a huge database - over 500,000 kinds of malware, and can find nasty stuff hidden in many kinds of archives and other packages. As scanners go, aside from speed, it is as good or better than any commercial products.

    Cons

It's thoroughness is bought at a price of speed. Few bells and whistles, little integration into other products, no memory scanning or realtime monitoring. Windows doesn't notice that an AV's installed.

    Summary

If you use IE and Outlook, it will integrate with those, and you should definitely make sure it does so. If you don't use IE or Outlook, you aren't at serious risk of getting viruses, so it might be all you need. If you want to "wear a belt and suspenders," use it with another product that keeps an eye on things in realtime, and use ClamWin for occasional full scans. For personal use, Avira's free edition is a great match with ClamWin, and AVG + ClamWin is pretty good too.

ClamWin will automatically update, and when it's not scheduled to actively scan a drive, it uses almost no resources, so you'll never find it slowing down your system at unexpected times.

    "For advanced users"

    January 6, 2009  |   By gooffadge

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

I just love this multi drive scanner. ClamWin is muscle bound.

    Cons

Don't mind a few false positives. The "remove file to this folder", or "delete" do not work for me.

    Summary

If you know what you are doing this is a great scanner. A small footprint, no nonsense program -- II use ClamWin portable when I believe my client's computers might be severely infected.

"CNET version sorely out of date: Give this a try!"

    December 11, 2008  |   By Crunchy_Frog

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

Real time protection on new version, open source works with Mac and Windows and more, not bloatware, simple to use and ONLY finds viruses

    Cons

    Not a pretty interface

    Summary

The current version is .94.1, so please download direct from Clamwin.com. New version DOES have real time protection and works on Vista. I am a big supporter of the open source community and I use ClamWin on my Mac and PC.

    Updated on Dec 11, 2008

Uh, my bad. There is no real time protection just an automatic update feature I mistook for that runs in the system tray. I apologize for the mistake.

    "Works Great"

    November 24, 2008  |   By kzterabite

    Version: ClamWin Antivirus 0.88

    Pros

I am a system builder I have clamwin running on over 2000 machines already. I donate money to them regularly. The thing about clamwin is it does not bog down the machine, uses very little system resources. Catches a lot of bugs Norton and MacFee cant

    Cons

Not for mom and pop. You have to actualy do manual scans of the stuff you download but if you do it always catches the bug.

    Summary

unlike norton and others this anti-virus requires a little user participation, if you are willing to scan what you download then the reward is a great anti-virus that won't rob your machine of its speed like Norton's and others like it do. I highly recommend this anti-virus for advanced users. If you are too lazy and want an anti-virus to do all the work for you and don't mind your computer running like a snail then go with Norton or Macfee. I have been using Clamwin for 4 years now and I will not use anything else.
