Version: Carbonite Online Backup 3.6
"Carbonite-Decent product; dumbest company ever"
Pros: Easy to backup files; cheap
Cons: Impossible to restore files after a crashed system; spend a little more on a product that works.
Summary: I subscribed to Carbonite when my hard drive was showing signs of failing. After backing up ALL of my files, my hard drive subsequently did fail and after recovering Windows onto a new drive, I attempted to install Carbonite. Unfortunately, I forgot my password. No problem. Click on "Forgot your password?" and they will email me a link to reset it. Except that in order to reset my password, they required either my carbonite serial number or my computer name...both of which were now lost on my failed hard drive. I spent nearly an hour on the chat line "talking" to some guy in Bangalore who was extremely polite, but ultimately couldn't help me and escalated my problem to Customer Service. Customer Service does not have a phone number, so it's a black hole. They never did contact me by email, as was promised. Bottom line? I paid $50 to backup my files, but now I have now way to recover them because the company is dumber than dirt. Don't waste your money on this product. Spend a little more and get something that has a company who will actually support it standing behind it.
