"Great screen recorder and noob video editor"
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
Great for screen recording. It's capable of doing basic video editing well.
Cons
Steep price. It's slow at rendering and doesn't really use multicore processors well.
Summary
This the best option for screen recording. If you want quick and dirty video editing, this will do the job. However, it is very expensive. Also, it's slow. Rendering a 2 minute 1080p video from MP4 to MOV took 18 minutes. On the same (quad-core i5) system Adobe Premier Pro CS5 took 5 minutes. It heavily utilized one CPU core, and the other cores had very little load. Meanwhile, Adobe Premier utilized all of them fully.
By the way, the PC I use has Windows 7 64-bit, an Intel Core i5 CPU (quad-core 2.66GHz) and 4GB DDR3 RAM.
Basically, this is a great tool for screen captures, and a decent one for video editing. I use it to make how-to videos for youtube. However, if you want to do advanced video editing, this is not the tool for you.

"Audio/Video NEVER in sync, too CPU intensive"
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
The editing suite is nice, the encoding options are helpful as well. Also very explanatory when it comes to making captures
Cons
Its junk. can't even use it, too CPU intensive With every capture the Audio/Video become out of sync with EVERY recording. oh, and to get the updated version you have to drop ANOTHER 300 dollars. What a fraud of a product. Get snapz pro for mac

"Nice program but does not work properly with windows 7"
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
Simple to lean, lots of features
Cons
Cannot produce a video with transitions. The program craps out or generates audio portions without video. Sometimes the sound is choppy. Make sure your laptop is plugged in first, shut down everything else and maybe, just maybe it will work.

"Long recording sessions often fail"
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
Seems like it has all the features and the resulting recordings are good.
Cons
My instructor for a computer programming class used this to record class sessions and it repeatedly failed. TechSmith is apparently aware of this problem and warns users to limit recordings to 45 minutes.
Summary
If you want to record short sessions, this product is probably fine. For longer recordings, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

"Memory errors in Win7 and HD files"
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
Love how easy it is to use. Love all the bells and whistles.
Cons
Having serious memory issues with Camtasia Studios. Though I have an HP TouchSmart 600, Camtasia keeps crashing due to editing HD files.
Summary
Would highly recommend this product except the trend is to create HD recordings with Kodak zi8 or Flip. The software can't seem to deal with large files. And if you need to merge from different files...forget it. Even if the files are only a couple of minutes long.

Summary
Works great yay

"Looked good but couldn't try out due to error!"

Cons
As soon as I installed on Win XP I keep getting this error every 30 seconds or so.
"Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."Summary
I had to uninstall, pity, hope they get this put right!

"Just try DemoCreator instead..."
Version: Camtasia Studio 7.1
Pros
Looks very nice, but does not work as promised
Cons
Too expensive, unstable, does not work.
Summary
I needed some screencasting software for my netbook. Camtasia Studio looked very promising, but after installation hassles started. It crashes in the middle of screencasting process so I was not able to finish it. Tried DemoCreator, which cost one third of Camtasia Studio and had no problem with it. I got it from :http://www.binarynow.com/products/democreator/
Camtasia may work fine on desktop, but it is "no go" for Acer netbooks".
