Version: Camfrog Video Chat 5.1.129
"Awesome and Addictive Video Confrence Experience"
Pros: Free version is always free. If you upgrade to the Pro Version which is more feature rich you do not have to pay for new releases. There is something for everyone on Camfrog. Full of Great People and a great place to gather with friends.
Cons: The newest version is 5.2 which is very nice but for one on one video confrencing it is not fully compatable with the previous versions. Users using enhanced emoticons gets annoying at times because they will not display if you do not have them.
Summary: First of all Download Camfrog and explore what it has to offer. You do not need a webcam to enter all the rooms although some rooms require one. Camfrog is just an addictive and fun way to relax and spend your spare time. The latest version of Camfrog v5.2 which was released Jan 5, 2009 is a great enhancement to an already awesome program v5.1.129. However v5.2 is not fully compatable with those running v5.1.129 when you enter a private video confrence. For this reason I reinstalled v5.1.129. Now if you download the software here it indicates you will be downloading v5.1.129 but I discovered today that you get v5.2. If you have never used Camfrog then do not let this discourage you because v5.2 is a fine piece of software and if you ask for v5.1.129 from others I am certain they will send it to you.
As you become aquainted with Camfrog you will soon want to add a virtual webcam software package to your computer. Three most widely used are Split Cam, ManyCam and WebCamMax. These programs allow you to use one webcam with multiple programs at the same time. ManyCam and WebCamMax allow you to add features to your display and make video confrencing more personal and fun.
The primary differance between the Free Verson and the Professional Version is that the free version only allows you display one video at a time. Where the Pro version allows you to display something like 100 videos at a time. The Pro version also unlocks some very nice tools for sorting user lists, searching user locations and a few other things which just add to the fun.
Camfrog indicates that if you run the pro version of the software on multiple computers your licence will be disabled and you will have to purchase a new licence or serial number. This is not exactly true. You can run it on 2 computers at the same time. If you try it on a 3rd computer then the deactivation proceedure will occur which you can avoid by exiting out of the software.
If your addicted to MSN, YAHOO, AOL, SKYPE, QQ, mIRC, ICQ and many others then your going to simply love Camfrog. There are other video confrence software and sites and some let you try the software out then you have to pay or others let you have a free account but with heavy restrictions. CamFrog although it does have its restrictions its still feature rich.
There are other video confrence software sites out there but CamFrog is unique. If you have children and allow them to use CamFrog there are settings to keep them out of the Adult Areas as I said CamFrog has something for everyone.
For those interested in running their own room there is even a free limited version of CamFrog Server you can download and operate your own room upto 10 users.
