Summary
Creating Video Demonstrations using Camstudio
Step 1. Install Camstudio:
a. Go to www.camstudio.org
b. Scroll down till you see "Latest Version: CamStudio 2.6 (Build r294)>Click "Download Now"
c. Go to your "Downloads" file folder>Double Click "CamStudio_Setup_v2.6b_r294_(build_24Oct2010).exe"
d. Double click the "Run" button and wait until the installation instructions appear>follow and complete installations instructions, and then reboot your machine
(note - if you get an error running the Camstudio software, "Createprocess failed; code 14001 This application has failed to start because the configuration is incorrect. Re-installing the application may fix the problem" then go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5582 and download "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008SP1 Redistributable Package" (it will download as "vcredist_x86.exe") - Save and run this file.
2. Set up Camstudio:
a. Region>Select "Fullscreen"
b. Options>Video Options>select "Cinepack Codec by Radius"
c. Enter "25" in the "Set Key Panes Every" field >Under Frame rates, enter "40" in "Capture Framerates every" field>enter "25" in "Playback rate" field
d. Ensure "Auto Adjust" checkbox is unchecked
e. Click "OK" button
3. Set up Cursor with yellow highlight:
a. Options>Cursor Options>Check "Highlight Cursor" checkbox>Click ok
4. Set up microphone recording (using your headset):
a. Options>Choose "Record audio from microphone"
b. Options>Audio options >Choose "Audio option from microphone"
c. All the next steps from d to g are under Options>Audio Options>Audio Options for microphone
d. Audio Capture Device>select "default input device"
e. Recording Format>Choose "22.05 kHz, stereo, 16-bit"
f. Compress format>Click "Choose Compressed Format" button>Select PCM from dropdown box>OK
g. Interleave Video and Audio>check "Interleave Every" checkbox and enter "40" in this field with milliseconds bulleted
h. Use system method for audio recording>check "Use MCI Recording" checkbox>OK
5. Set up program options - add a tick for all of the following:
a. Options>Program Options>Save settings on exit + capture translucent/layered windows are checked
b. Options>Program Options>Play AVI when recording>Choose "Use Camstudio Player 2.0"
c. Options>Program Options>Directory for recording>Choose "Use application installed directory (this will default to C:/Program Files/Camstudio 2.6b/Recordings on your computer)
d. Options>Program options>Name of AVI file>Choose "Ask for filename"
6. Recording and saving your first video:
a. Select the button to minimize Camstudio to your application toolbar (at bottom of your screen)
b. Ensure you have the application you wish to record opened such that it fills your entire screen, and zoom in so that you are viewing MS Word tools at 100% and MS Excel / Symphony tools at 120%
c. Select the button to begin recording
d. To pause recording at any time, use the button, and to resume recording again
e. Select the button to stop recording
f. You will automatically be prompted to name your .avi video file, and it will save to the file directory you set up earlier in step 5 part c.
