Calm for iPhone promotes mindfulness through meditation practice. De-stress and reduce anxiety with guided meditations, Sleep Stories, breathing programs, relaxing music, and nature sounds.
The free version offers users a fair amount to start, but a premium account ($12.99 per month; $59.99 a year; and $299.99 for a lifetime) gets you so much more, including Daily Calms, all the meditations, the entire Sleep Stories library, more music tracks, and the ability to download programs for offline use.
Tailored to you: Calm begins by asking you to choose your top goals, which include everything from reducing anxiety and stress to increasing happiness and better sleep. It then tailors programs to your needs.
Easy to navigate: Tap the profile icon on the top left to share your stats over text, email, or social media; to turn on the Mindfulness Reminder; see your Session History, and more. Tap the mountains icon on the top right to download screensavers and sounds. Tap the meditation button on the center of the bottom rail to open hundreds of meditations. Tap the music button on the bottom left for a variety of music to help you relax, sleep, and focus. Tap the sleep icon on the bottom right for Sleep Stories to lull you to sleep.
Variety of meditations: Calm offers meditations for beginning, intermediate, and advanced users, in lengths of 3 to 25 minutes, on myriad topics such as calming anxiety, improving self-esteem, practicing loving kindness, and improving deep sleep. Unguided timed meditation and open-ended meditation round out the app's offerings.
Soothing screensavers: Calm offers four soothing screensavers to choose from when you load the app, including a lake scene, a roaring fire, a rainy forest, and a spinning globe. If you're unhappy with those, tap on the mountains icon on the top right for many more sights to download.
Daily Calm: Each day, paid members get a new 10-minute Daily Calm meditation delivered straight to their home screen to help start or close the day, mindfully.
Mindfulness Reminder: Set the Mindfulness Reminder and a reminder time to keep you on track to achieving your daily meditation goals.
Daily Calm and Offline listening are subscriber-only features: Two of the app's handiest features -- the Daily Calm, which makes it easy to get to a meditation by putting it on the home screen, and the ability to listen to programs offline, helpful if you're out of Wi-Fi range -- are available only to paid subscribers.
If calmness is what you're after, then the Calm app is definitely worth your time and the cost of a premium subscription.
We're excited to introduce Calm Music -- our biggest new feature this year!
Calm Music features 3 channels: Calm Focus (subtly rhythmic music to help you focus while working or studying), Calm Relax (for kicking back and winding down) and Calm Sleep (to help you drift off to dreamland). Over the last year we've carefully composed the music for each channel using cutting-edge audio science and we think the results are incredible. We hope you agree.
You'll find Calm Music on the home screen of the app in the bottom left, where the Breathe Bubble feature used to be. You can now find the Breathe Bubble linked under the Meditate Menu.
While you're waiting for the update to install, try this simple practice: Relax, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. As you breathe, allow any tension you're holding to melt away. Scan your body starting with your head and face, and slowly scan your attention down to your toes, softening each body part one by one. See how it feels to stop and fully relax the mind and body
