"Slick Freeware"
Version: Calibre 0.8.63
Pros
Intuitive
Very easy to use
Customizable
It worksCons
Continually updated (if that is a con -- you can expect a new version every week or two at the most)
Summary
This is the best tool I've seen for the purpose and I recommend it highly.

"REALLY bad user interface"
Version: Calibre 0.8.63
Pros
Seems to work with most formats. It's free
Cons
seems like they feel the need to reinvent the wheel just to be different. Completely strange interface. Even though I selected in my settings to only import epub and pdf it tried to import practically EVERY file in my documents folder, not just books. weird. Also hangs up a lot on Window 7.
Summary
Use it if you have no other options.

"It's me, isn't it?!"
Version: Calibre 0.8.62
Pros
Still waiting for one.
Cons
Doesn't seem to work.
Summary
My first inkling that something might be wrong was when I opened the program and it couldn't open it's own quick start guide. XP could not find an application that would open the file. I tried pointing it to calibre.exe (Windows does not list the program so you have to search for it) The program would add the guide to it's library but still could not access it. Wow!

"Fantastic program for managing e-books"
Version: Calibre 0.8.62
Pros
Seems complete in its features. Detailed instructions on how to sync with iTunes allows me to manage my e-books on my new iPad3. Incredible free price!
Cons
None so far.
Summary
I'm an average, not-so-highly-technical user. I just want to read and manage my e-books. This program offers a multitude of features. Excellent!

"MetaTag Editor Svcks"
Version: Calibre 0.8.61
Pros
Can read most any ebook format.
Cons
Requires regex to manipulate imported metatags. Imported files with metatags inconsistent with GUI pre-test. No menu driven metatag editor via filenames nor is there a script generator to power changes like mediamonkey or any embedded HW solution.. No ability to swap tag fields by batch - everything is single-page point-and-click like Apple i$4!t. The calibre development community responds to critiques by sticking their nose in the air.
Summary
You're not good enough for Calibre.

"Better Than Imagined"
Version: Calibre 0.8.58
Pros
The reader works like a charm. There are a huge number of available options, but it's easy to ignore them at the start, and just enjoy the functionality.
Cons
I haven't found anything I don't like.
-
"Fantastic."
Version: Calibre 0.8.57
Pros
Very easy to use.
Cons
Sometimes .lit files don't work properly.
Summary
I have tried similar applications but Calibre is the easist to use and has all the features that you need to maintain your library.

"Electronic book reader"
Version: Calibre 0.8.56
Pros
Free, it seems to work quite well, which no doubt is a reason to get such high ratings from other reviewers. It converts between formats and it is fairly easy to use.
Cons
But irritates me the most? Is the cost that upgrades! I do believe I have the CNET announcements for this now turned off, since it seems to happen every other day. :-(
So far, I have found no connection to the Gutenberg press which would have been handy to have. If it is there, I haven't seen itSummary
Ah, the joys of Voice recognition! There is no cost to upgrade, except the constant reminder to contribute, and as I said, as has many others, it is a good program. So, it may very well be the best of its type of program for the PC, but does it have to have constant tinkering by the author?
