CNET Editors' review
This utility helpfully displays selected patterns to aid in calibrating a monitor. CalibrationAider's interface is simply eight pulldown menus over a display window. A simple online tutorial effectively guides users through the reasoning and operation of the utility.
CalibrationAider's menus are divided into Image, Layout, ColorSpace, Filter, Saturation, Window, Tools, and Help. All functions alter the display pattern. Image and Layout items affect the pattern's shape. ColorSpace, Filter, and Saturation alter the display colors. Many items are used in conjunction with others to create complex color and shape patterns. In addition to finding color or grayscale problems, the tool helps users discover the proper monitor distance and angle for easy viewing.
The app can't display Pantone or similar color palettes, and it also lacks a tool to display the RGB value of a particular pixel. Nevertheless, this app is very useful to those with a fuzzy display who are wondering if they need new glasses or a new monitor.
