    "Very nice RPN Calculator"

    April 15, 2013   |   By CrimsonJD

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

This is a quite usable RPN calculator with a large (infinite?) stack, and good usability.
I wanted to write a review to respond to some of the previous reviews:
    - StepNJump - this is an RPN calculator, so its working exactly as it is supposed to - the built-in help file does a pretty good job explaining how to use RPN, and you can find more online
    - bethgene03 - I certainly can't find any trojan, if anyone else can, post how you found it
    - For the guy who got 6+4=12 - This was a tricky one. I realized that you have the calculator in Base 8 instead of Base 10! Click on "DEC" instead of "OCT" and 6+4 will hopefully be 10!
    - For the Excalibur recommendation - This was hard for me to find. The only shareware site I could find it had a _terrible_ installer that installed some weird spyware toolbars even though I told it not to. Makes CNET's installer seem downright pleasant. The calculator itself is OK but has a fixed stack of 4, which makes it less useful.

    Cons

Hopefully the author will update this one day. It runs fine under Win7-64 bit, but I couldn't get the help file to open by clicking Help. (I could open the help file directly from the install folder though)
A few more keyboard shortcuts would be a big help. There should be a Clear All shortcut (maybe ESC), and the SPACE bar should do an Enter. Customizable shortcuts would be really great.

"Exactly what I was wanted - simple RPN w/ deep stack."

    November 06, 2009   |   By Btward

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

Compared to others on CNET, this one actually has the functionality I am accustomed to on the HP28.

    Cons

    Haven't found any yet.

    Summary

I would recommend this to someone looking for a small, free, application that allows you to do basic RPN calculations. Sometimes genius is in simplicity.

    "Doesn't work for me"

    April 08, 2009   |   By ---StepNjump---

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

    Doesn't work!

    Cons

When I key in any kind of operation: +, -, /, *... I get the error message: invalid operation. Strangely enough, I have the latest Microsoft.net framework 3.5 SP1 installed under XP SP2

    Summary

    Updated on Apr 8, 2009

    Ok, I found the problem.
It's weird they have it to work that way but here's what you need to do:
The first value you enter, you got to press <ENTER> first.
Then you can start using the calculator in RPN mode.
My rating is 3 because it doesn't have (or couldn't figure out) a tape so one can scroll back to review the calculation history.
That would be a great improvement.

    "RPN - simple visual"

    July 05, 2007   |   By randysvh

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

very functional, if you like RPN format it is great. Although i have to say i like the styled functional look of a HP design, as seen in another RPN calculator.

    Cons

The visual interface is not pretty.

    "Does what it should do!"

    January 11, 2006   |   By mtkavc

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

The command line is separate from the stack, which is excellent. The window is resizable.

    Cons

There is no Drop button keyboard shortcut, no thousands separator, does not use system comma, strangely the stack is loaded from the top.

    "Nice. Just what I wanted."

    April 15, 2005   |   By Bifocal

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Pros

This calculator is large, resizable, and the colors can be adjusted. I wanted one because the Windows calculator was too small and awkward for me. I haven't used RPN since 1982 and will not be doing advanced calculations on it. (So I can't speak to the some of the issues addressed in other reviews.)

I wanted a big, free calculator that could work in Hex and Binary and that is what I got.

    Cons

It does take a few moments to load on my 900 mz machine. This really doesn't bother me. I’d like it if the 10 key portion was a little larger then the rest of the keys just to make it a bit easier to focus on the pad. I’d also like to be able to change the font size on the buttons. None of these things are much a problem.

    "Skip it...Try Excalibur instead"

    December 28, 2004

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Summary

Too flaky and too many errors. I would recommend Excalibur instead (an oldie but goodie in my mind).

"Good if you only want to compute expressions with 2 numbers in it."

    December 08, 2004

    Version: Calculator.NET 1.11

    Summary

I love that this is free, but the logic used to compute long expressions is flawed and that's the whole point of an RPN calculator. To compute the expression (2*3)+(12/3) you would enter this on any other RPN calculator, "2 3 * 12 3 / +", and the result would be 10. On this calculator the result is 12. What's even more frustrating about that is that it correctly shows 6 and 4 in the x & y registers before you press the +. It's a good effort, and I support anyone offering free software, but in this case you get what you pay for.
