"I use Cakewal Pyro to convert my audio book collection"

    October 9, 2008  |   By mlotis

    Version: Cakewalk Pyro 1.5

    Pros

The process required that I play the cassettee into the computer (time comsuming) but after I had recorede a 30 tom 40 minute it allowed me to go back and break the single 30 to 45 min. track into smaller segemets that are called splits.

    Cons

The software was so easy to use there are no cons. infact after I broke my audio books into samller tracks the software gave me the choice of saving it in mp3, wma, or wave and mp3 and wave could be saved as different kps. Cheap at $29.95

    Summary

I have a BS with a major in accounting with a minor in computer science. My speciality was software implamentation and this was the easyest to use software I't have ever used. It was the best ether $29.99 Or $49.00, (its been so long I can't remember) that I have ever spent on software. It allowed me to convert over 150 cassettee audio books into mp3. And for that alone I will alway be thankful to Cakewalk

"very frustrating .... not very user friendly"

    December 20, 2007  |   By bosco66

    Version: Cakewalk Pyro 1.5

    Pros

good range of options and definitely worth the cost IF you can get it to work properly

    Cons

Still trying to get the effects to work when cleaning up vinyl recordings. This program needs to be simplified for us who aren't that computer savy. Not very compatible with my DirectX....most of the listed options are not available to me. Maybe they should write a book "Pyro For Dummies". Until then it will likely be collecting dust on my hard drive while I look for something a little more user friendly.

    "Very decent audio program..."

    February 25, 2006  |   By jiminikiz

    Version: Cakewalk Pyro 1.5

    Pros

[+]Although many of the other cakewalk programs and do what this program can, this old version of Pyro is still fun to mess around with.

[+] The audio effects are totally awsome! I espcially like the Neighbor preset (makes the audio sound like it's coming from next door). This is espcially cool if you like making flash video, maybe a seen where the person goes in the next room.. you can turn the preset on in the middle of the song and easily save a copy of the changes.

[+] Conversions & Ripping audio is simple and decent.

    Cons

[-] *Bug - Clicking the Internet button locks up the program in a never ending "cannot update" loop. Must force quit if you click it.

All in all, fun audio program. I suggest looking at Cakewalk's Pyro 5, it's a million times better. And by-the-way, make sure you close all programs before you try to install this trial, as setup will lock up mid-installation if you don't.
