    "Good all-round update advice"

    February 3, 2013  |   By cwoodsp

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1

    Pros

Starts up with the PC and almost immediately indicates which updates are available. With the amount of apps/progs/distros (select your favourite term) installed on our machines, it is easy to lose track of how outdated some of them have become. Whilst most major software has automatic update and upgrade facilities, this is most definitely not the case for ALL installed software on my desktops and laptops. CNET tracker differentiates between my PCs - and tailors its responses accordingly.

    Cons

As another reviewer pointed-out, the prompts to update no longer installed software, and prompts to update ALREADY current software, can be annoying. Well, fixing that is easy. You HIDE what you don't need reminding about! Very easily done on the Tracker page - and no more unnecessary reminders.

    "WIN 8 Compatibility"

    January 31, 2013  |   By chandynimmycnet

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1

    Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed CNET TechTracker with my previous PC operating on Win XP. But whether it adopts to WIN 8 is not clarified anywhere. Its downloadable WebSite specifies only the earlier Op Systems and not the latest one; Can anyone please suggest a way out.

    Cons

    Nil to my knowledge.

    "When it works...it works fine."

    January 26, 2013  |   By Toran Korshnah

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1

    Pros

    Easy to use.

    Cons

    Crashes a lot.

    Summary

If you are patient, it works 1/50. But when it works, it does a great job. Secunia however is a serious alternative. Or use Linux. Nothing beats Linux when you want fast and easy updates. In fact, nothing beats Linux...

"Erratic but fine when it works"

    January 25, 2013  |   By merglerr

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1

    Pros

Analyzes what you have installed and searches for newer versions. Offers "one-click" and "expert" options.
Identifies whether updates are free, trial or require payment

    Cons

Erratic during execution - claims there is a newer version but there isn't. Sometimes hangs the interface which requires reboot (and it's not the OS or other programs). Needs an option to disable notification for individual updates one will never do such as an update that has known flaws.

"Works on one computer, not on the other - PLUS version?"

    January 24, 2013  |   By Raveninred

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1

    Pros

On my other computer, it works like a charm, if some software updates glitch every now and then by telling me i need to update, I'm fine with that - I know I already did.

    Cons

However, just installed on my other computer and software won't update, keeps telling me I have to have the paid "Plus" version but won't let me or tell me how or where to do so.

    Summary

If it worked the same on both computers with the same operating system et al., then i'd be a happy camper - as it stands, product is less than useless if I cannot use it at all.
