"Does Not Recognize My Computer!!! No setting to fix it."

    December 21, 2011  |   By davee106

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

There are nor Pros if it isn't working

    Cons

I download, install and scan. then I click on Get updates. Web browser starts up goes to my CNET login and I see this...

"We don't recognize the computer you are using. To add this computer to your account, download and install CNET TechTracker on this computer."

I did that already ... now what????
Why can't I go to profile settings and add this computer?

It a very simple setting to link or relink to a computer. I deleted all of my CNET cookies and still same message.

    Summary

This is a good idea in concept. The execution is flawed if there is no way to change settings that were automatically set during installation.

"'We don't recognize the computer you are using!""

    December 17, 2011  |   By GianMarco Tavazzani

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

    As 'version checker' it works.

    Cons

A silly sentence like "We don't recognize the computer you are using. To add this computer to your account, download and install CNET TechTracker on this computer" when you click "Get updates' is very frustrating by a now very old application which pretended to be updated dozen of times and never came out by this BASIC bug!

    Summary

I dislike to rate a product in cases like this, I mean when they simply refuses to start to work, so that we can't honestly say to have checked them, but if I'm FORCED to do it (and I'm forced by the developer itself, here!) then my vote must be a pitiless ZERO!
And my bigger question is: it it possible that they didn't notice this 'stop at the start' like a rocket which can't start the engine????

"Not recommended unless you love Nanny bloatware"

    December 11, 2011  |   By Owlish48

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

Monitors your loaded software for any updates, specifically including 'opportunities' to add further bloatware, like HotBars and 'special' scan engines

    Cons

Far, far too many useless 'upgrades' to programs, some of which (due to installer/upgrade failures) will make your current software unusable (once I could consider an acceptable overhead, but 2 of 3 have caused me issues - out it goes)

    Summary

I desire to _use_ my computer, not be used by it. This program has a noble intent but the current results are not acceptable. The failure lies less with the specific program but with the install/upgrade programs it calls. The program is an answer to an issue that the overall computer support system just is not able to support. Multiple minor 'upgrades', most with the 'opportunity' to add various bloatware, are NOT what I wish to see every time I boot my system. Perhaps I'll try this again in a year (but I doubt it).

    "Can NOT UNinstall this!"

    December 10, 2011  |   By thePinkieCycle

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

Bogs down machine start EVERYTIME even when selected not to automatically open on start up.... oh wait... that's ANOTHER point AGAINST.

    Cons

This program WAS successfully uninstalled (thank you Ccleaner!) BUT when I went to log into C/Net I got:
To finalize your uninstall, please remove this computer from your CNET TechTracker home page.
    • Step 1: Visit your My Software page at http://www.cnet.com/techtracker
    • Step 2: On your My Software page select 'Manage Computers' from the 'Settings & Help...' menu
    • Step 3: Click "Remove this computer" next to the name of the computer you wish to remove
For additional assistance, please visit http://cnet.custhelp.com.

No problem EXCEPT then I could NOT log in without REINSTALLING TechTracker!

Sadly I shall need to shut down my account (which I have had for nearly a decade) with CNet to keep this program OFF my machine!

    Summary

    Use at your own PERIL!

    "Works okay."

    December 8, 2011  |   By Ji-HooF4

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

Doesn't take up too much space. Relatively simple to use. Rather convenient to have mutiple software updates all in one place.

    Cons

Doesn't always acknowledge recent updates, and so continues to give you outdated flaggings on software you've just updated. Also flags for updates on software you don't even have on your computer and don't really need.

    Summary

Like it well enough to keep it and use it semi-regularly.

"Good idea but its Buggy -cant add other PC in Profile"

    December 8, 2011  |   By Brian1Grey

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

Reminders about old but useful software updates are great when you have so many rarely-used (but vital) cleanup and drive tools.

    Cons

I can't find a way to get it to add my other PCs to my profile. An ENDLESS FRUSTRATING LOOP of "We don't recognize the computer you are using." Goes on to say "To add this computer to your account, download and install CNET TechTracker on this computer." Well that was how I got here... NO WAY OFF THE LOOP.

I hope they fix it, and then I hope I can come back & edit this review....

    Summary

The concept is good, but the Profile endless loop block makes it useless.

"Needless complication to the download process"

    December 4, 2011  |   By Alfionso

    Version: CNET TechTracker 2.0.4

    Pros

    meh.......
(on a side note, why is there a 10 character minimum? what if there are no Pros?)

    Cons

Not terribly useful, just another thing sitting in the task bar until you kill it.
Really not a fan of downloading a file that will go download the file I want and add it to the tech tracker.
When I download something, I actually want THAT thing. Maybe I don't want to install it on that computer, or I want to install on multiple computers. ( Yes, now I see the link below the download now button ).

    Summary

    Pass this by.
Support the advertisers... visit the cnet site to make sure you're up to date.
Browse the app lists. That's the only reason to have a computer at home, right?
