    "Works OK and it's Free"

    January 22, 2011  |   By ChuckOG

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

Tells me when there's updates to the software I have installed.

    Cons

Doesn't differentiate between UPDATE and UPGRADE.
Alert window should close after clicking on the button to bring you to the tech tracker page. You always have to click on "Remind me later" even after you acted on the alert.

    Summary

Not bad for free. There are some annoyances, but it basically works.

    "Works just so so."

    January 8, 2011  |   By deckstro

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

I like to keep up with changes and it does a good job of listing what's changed. It is also easy to get the replacements.

    Cons

This shows changes but doesn't account for software updates that DON'T run on older machines. It should be able to distinguish if the update will run on my system.

    Summary

Will keep using but have had to hide a lot of items that no longer run on my system.

"Compared to Version Tracker, it STINKS!"

    January 6, 2011  |   By bobgregg--2008

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

    Nothing positive

    Cons

It doesn't have a clue! Read the other reviews - I second all of the negatives.

"Not worth the time and effort."

    December 30, 2010  |   By vgmitchell@mac.com

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

    BOASTS wonderful capabilities!

    Cons

The bounding icon in the dock is annoying.
    Software lookups are mostly erroneous.
    Does not perform software installations.
Sports an extremely cluttered interface full of invalid or useless information.

    Summary

I faithfully renewed my annual subscription to Version Tracker Pro because it really worked and it did what it said it would do. CNET TechTracker is so disgusting, that upon completing this review I am going to remove it from my both my MAC laptops. I will reconsider the software when I am convinced that the free version is worth my time because the "soon to be released" pay version must do a much better job.

    "Total waste of time"

    December 29, 2010  |   By rlinsurf

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

Would be great -- if it worked.

    Cons

    It doesn't.

    Summary

It's so convoluted it asks to be downloaded several times, even though it was already up to date. It has an application, *and* a pref pane! Installs and connects to the site, but somehow misses letting the site know that it's already installed. Then complains that it isn't installed. Total garbage.

"Great for finding upgrades for Applications"

    December 28, 2010  |   By ianmorris

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

Very easy in use, it scans your Applications finds available updates and the list of updates are presented to you.

    Cons

The main annoyance is it's failure to distinguish between updates and upgrades.

    Summary

    I generally like the product.

    "OK, that;s all"

    December 17, 2010  |

    Version: CNET TechTracker 1.3.2a

    Pros

I like having a reminder that some of my more obscure software needs updating.

    Cons

I am dissatisfied with this software's inability to inform me of my current version and with its tendency to keep advising me of the need to update when that is clearly in error.

    Summary

I'm hoping the long promised revision of the software is soon available for my Mac.
