"Does Download App replace Tech Tracker?"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
I have always liked Tech Tracker, but it seems Download App does the same thing in a more high teck manner.
Cons
I have observed none.
Summary
Do I need both Download App and Tech Tracker???

"Scans and takes care of most updates but Not all"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Runs mostly in the background and notifies successfully of the major of updates.
Cons
Does not scan for all updates.
Also it fails to recognize updated software all the time. I've had the tracker say something needed to be updated, even though it was completely up to date. Also the smart install doesn't always work. -

"NOT Windows 7 Friendly"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
If you are running XP & Vista - then GREAT!
Cons
Windows 7 ISSUES!
BloatwareSummary
Works great with XP & Vista. However, with Windows 7 it puts my computer into fits. I surely hope they fix this as it is/was a great program.

"Product excellent."
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Product excellent on XP Home & Prof - not sure about my new computer with Win 7 (not enough s/ware on it yet, but I think I have same prob as BBBrown reported on 4th March).
Cons
Not sure if TT covers drivers or just actual programs? Surely drivers are just as important but I don't remember any/many updates for them via TechTracker.
Summary
Very good - even essential! BTW - I thought I was just being asked to review the TITLE of this software, i.e. "CNET TechTracker 2.1 from CNET" and not the software itself - and I was going to say that the last "from CNET" was a bit redundant. I now guess you didn't mean this?!
Dropping my rating to 2 stars!! (Used to be far more.) 2 reasons: (1) I'm now using a new Win-7 machine and although T/Trkr works, it only lists about 6 progs (I have many more) and no updates; (2) I've just tried Uninstall/Re-install of T/Tracker but it freezes at Step-2 regardless of whether I let it install the extra, unwanted software (forget its name).
One final thing - I agree with mga59's comment (8th March) re TT trying to install extra "bloatware" (toolbars etc.) - I think his word "shameful" is almost(?) appropriate. At least, please it REALLY obvious in each case where you want to do this so as we can make a choice whether to install the "extra" or not.
I hope the above comments on the TT PROGRAM are of use. Thanks for it!

NOW after weeks of para (1) above, it SUDDENLY (as I write this review) finds the rest of the progs on my machine!!! WHY??
Updated on May 16, 2013NOT HAPPY - recent serious bugs (covered in my previous review, and by other users). Also WHY are u asking for more reviews when u are abandoning Tech Tracker at end May?? I am trying Sumo at present but may switch to your new "Download App" if Sumo no good. Hope "Download App" is good!! Thanks - Dick J. -

"CNET TechTracker 2.1"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Sounds good in the literature
Cons
Does not live up to its billing.
Summary
It does not load to my System 7 PC. It does not call up. It doesn't work very well, at all.
I cannot get this CNET to work as advertised. I cannot seem to get it onto my computer. It does not seem to work. And I cannot get this thing to work or registered.

"Download.com Mandatory Download client is a failure"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Download.com's decision to incorporate tricks and social engineering to force the install of their software and if you are not careful (Very careful) you will install a bunch of bloated garbage on any download form Download.com is a huge mistake. Hopefully there will be a huge drop in their downloads as this is spammer/hacker behavior.
I will no longer use this service.Cons

Summary
Shame on download.com, this is really shameful, I have to assume that they are now being run by a bunch of Luddites that can't figure out how to monetize this great property and have resorted to spammer/hacker/social engineering tricks because they simply don't know what they are doing.

"DOES NOT WORK!!!"
Version: CNET TechTracker 2.1
Pros
Don't have a pro because it wont work
Cons
Wont work no matter what I try!!
Summary
An error occurred during the scan: Error submitting scan results to server.
I just solved this problem!!! I added http://www.cnet.com to my trusted sites in internet options and then downloaded and installed. Once I'd run it one time successfully, I removed the trusted site and it still works fine :) I'd tried SO many different things to get this software to work. I FINALLY cracked it! YAY!!!
Please try the scan again.
Etc.
Etc.
I've tried everything in an attempt to get this to work. I've removed all traces of this program from my hard drive and registry to make sure I was installing it completely fresh and clean. I've also tried disabling my virus software and adding an entry to my firewall to make sure it was not being blocked in any way. BUT IT STILL WONT CONNECT TO SERVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: It used to work fine but after formatting my hard drive a while ago and reinstalling windows and all my software this program just doesn't work!!!! VERY ANNOYING!!!! And lots of other people have this same issue if you investigate forums.
