"Must be logged in as an Administrator"
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
Checks for updates......
Cons
There are other products out ther that accompish the same task, while being uable to al users on a Windows box.
"False Alarms": on several products (Including Windows live Messenger).
Missed a number of programs.Summary
You can accomplish the same thing with several competing products out there which are more thorough, don't give "false alarms" and run from any account (administrator or standard [unprivileged]).
It also missed a number of outdated programs that the competition did not. -
"Finds and alerts our software updates automatically."
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
This app working successfully, only by using very less system usage and internet connection usage.
Cons
Till now, nothing to be found bad here.
Summary
Stay connected with your latest updated softwares.
-
"You ket what you pay for"
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
Gives a basic scan of programs on your computer that may need updating.
Cons
Repeatedly tells me MSN Messenger is out of date when it isn't. Sent note of fact to CNet and still get told that MSN Messenger is out of date.
Summary
Needs some work. Considering removing as a waste of time.
-
"Good software, but there are issues"
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
An easy, fast way to check for updates
Cons
Some software that I use isn't on download.com (not blaming TechTracker or CNET for this one), and some of my software is mislabeled, ie Sony's eBook library
Summary
I like it because I hate opening up software and then having it tell me to update it. TechTracker makes this a much rarer thing then it has been.
-
"This app has helped keep me up to date on my software."
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
I like to know when I need to update my software and be informed of the latest software available.
Cons
There is nothing I do not like about this product.
Summary
I think this is a necessary app that keeps the consumer informed of their software that need to be updated so they will be able to use the latest version available.
-
"Useful, but it's scanning ability-woefully inefficient"
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
Yes, This can be useful in keeping up on the apps on your HD. The ONLY function I found most useful was the settings to send e-mail alerts.
Cons
The scanner keeps picking up old updates. Even AFTER I've updated the software; it keeps listing the same software as needing to be updated-ANNOYING.
Summary
This app is useful as far as sending you e-email alerts. But whoever developed this app needs to go back and tweak the scanning settings and somehow make it distinguish old from updated software, otherwise it's a waste of time. You'd almost do as well to click on the actual app and look for updates from each site. ;-(

"Did Not Install"
Version: CNET TechTracker app 1.3.0.52
Pros
A good idea.
Cons
After reading the reviews I didn't even install it. The user reviews were uniformly bad. No sense wasting my time and resources.
BTW.. I could not locate this on CNet site using the Search Box. Had to Google it.
That tells me volumes.Summary
I made up my mine when I read the review from 'rosemaryrv2' about it being malware. Other reviews confirmed that it gave lots of false readings. Glad I read the reviews.
