Though this multifaceted burning tool won't win any beauty awards, it has almost everything Windows users need to create CDs and DVDs. One of the most glaring needs for Windows XP users is a DVD burner, and CDBurnerXP Pro fits the bill well. Despite a slightly confusing interface, this freeware tool should not disappoint users who take the time to familiarize themselves with its functionality.
The core of the program's feature set consists of three main tasks, which are prompted via a wizard upon start-up: writing data CDs and DVDs, creating CDs for audio playback, and ripping music from CDs or editing ID3 tags. Canceling the wizard results in a rather blank blue screen with only a few selections in the toolbar. In order to work on a new project, you'll need to select one of the options, which can be brought back via the "New document" icon in the upper left. Unfortunately, you can't even open an existing project without selecting one of the wizard options first. The program supports both burnproof and on-the-fly disc writing, as well as bootable ISO files, but it cannot burn double-layer DVDs, a feature promised for version 3.5, which is currently in alpha development. While it may take users some time to learn how to use it effectively, CDBurnerXP Pro is a competent tool and a great value.

Version: CDBurnerXP 4.2.3.1110
Pros: Nice easy to use and very light on system resources especially compared to Nero.
Cons: For some reason got 3 failed writes to CD. Burning MP3. 1st reason the file name was too long?? 2nd reason maybe bad or cheap disks!! 3rd reason none.
Summary: Great prog compared to NeroBloatware - but 3 failed burns, the first in 7 years of burning MP3's and the first ever!!

Version: CDBurnerXP 4.2.3.1110
Pros: It's a barebone cd/dvd burning software. Pretty much what I need. It's not bloatware like many of the commercial CD/DVD tools out there.
Cons: Discontinued CD ripping feature.
Summary: I hadn't used this program in a while. I downloaded it as it used to be my main program for ripping and burning CDs. Well, I go to rip a CD and can't figure out how. I check on their website. According to the website, the following is stated:

"Simple, elegant, error free...."
Pros: CDBrunerXp Pro does the same tasks that can be done with other commercial CD burning software with less fancy graphics. The program ran well in my old computer, and it runs perfectly in my laptop too.
Cons: Non at all,
Summary: The program is superb not only because it is free, but because of it elegant features. I think commercial CD writing software will go out of business soon. ;)

"Creates ISOs from Bootable CD/DVDs -- Thank You!"
Pros: Latest version supports Dual-layer DVDs. Creates ISOs from Bootable CD/DVDs. Freeware. I will keep testing. May never go back to Nero again.
Cons: None found :)
Summary: The website has a listing of current features which is more recent than what is stated in the Editor's Review. The help system is apparently web-based. I brought up Help and was immediately found the task I was looking for listed on the categories i... read more >>

Version: CDBurnerXP 4.2.3.1110
Pros: Flawless installation, user-friendly and what a bargain....its FREE!! Does it get any better than this? CDBurnerXP made a copy from a "protected" CD with ease. "Record Now", which I paid for, was not up to the task.
Cons: Haven't found any.
Summary: This software does what its supposed to do in a very uncomplicated fashion.
