"Terrible. Avoid, even if offered as a give away."

    by alien_by_will on May 5, 2008

    Pros: 1) It was free.

    2) Feature rich.

Cons: 1) Bits and pieces bundled together, but not really unified in a single control.

    2) Very user unfriendly... everything.

    3) Parental controls are a great feature, but the way they are implemented (account within Windows account) is simply amateur, and makes using the computer a pain.

    4) Website validator makes browsing slower.

    5) The firewall is totally useless. "Safe" and "Restricted" zones must be the worst representation of rule tables I have ever seen.

    6) The "CA Suite protected you from..." notification keeps popping up, even though I repeatedly turn it off.

    7) I thought the good old times when every ping counted as an intrusion attempt were gone, but here CA are back, telling me they protected me from 130 hacking attempts every day...

    8) Anti-Spyware and Anti-Spam I can't comment on, because I still haven't figured out how to use them.

    9) It is a resource hog. It even slows down Fifa'07, and that never happened on my machine before, whether I was running Kasperski or AVG.

Conclusion: stay away. This product should have never made it to market. I have never seen anything as bad as this in this industry.

"Excellent Software - especially for Vista Users"

    by E1337 on July 13, 2008

Pros: Extremely low resource usage, extremely fast and secure scans, trusted by the DoD and US Military. I'm an IT professional - please disregard the opinions of the "layman"s that have posted previously.

Cons: Only install features you'll use. For trouble free performance use the anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam. Just use the windows firewall. Most of these unexperienced users don't have the hardware to backup the installation and are installing the DNA Migrator which implements real-time system backups (yes - this is where they're resource usage claims result from). Don't be a newb - do your backups manually.

    "Real Bad Program"

by techproccc on June 6, 2008

Cons: This program strongly interferes with the internet performance. I had 4 clients with CA installed on their system and had problem browsing the web. When I disabled the CA program, the web browsing started to perform normal.

    "Good and Bad"

by SGAMedia on March 7, 2008

Pros: This was offered by Mediacom free for 1 year... so I got it. I installed it on both my desktop and laptop. First, on the desktop, it runs very well. It detected viruses and spyware that my previous program didn't. It scans pretty quick compared to others (it scanned my 120GB HD in about 20 minutes). Didn't really slow the system (though did notice a little lag). It does, however, make Windows load VERY slow at startup. It has a nice interface and is very user friendly. On desktops it's awesome.

    Cons: The Bad:

Now, on my laptop, which is a Dell with 1GB RAM, P Core 2 Duo, 80GB HD, etc. It was horrible! Took 3 minutes for Windows to load. Slowed my system to a crawl, caused other programs, like Web Easy Pro, Open Office, Excel to have errors. I lost a lot of work on my website because it kept causing Web Easy Pro to crash. Internet Explorer was slow... even my 8 meg cable internet service, which is usually super fast, dropped. It was crazy. I had similiar results on my laptop with Norton (which, by the way... avoid).

So, I uninstalled and went back to Avast. No problems now... back to normal.

    Overall:

On desktops, CA is very good. It's thorough, scans deep and quick. I really liked it... BUT NOT ON LAPTOPS. You're better off with Avast for laptops... or some other light product.

    DESKTOPS: DEFINITELY

    LAPTOPS: NOW WAY!

"Avoid this software - corrupts your comuter and almost impossible to get rid of"

    by macushla1 on July 15, 2008

Cons: When I installed this software it caused huge problems on my computer, and there was no way to uninstall it! I ended up having to re-format my hard disk to get rid of it. I have thrown my copy this program into the garbage, and I paid good money for it. Stay well clear of this one!
