    "Truly great"

Another Launcher is very well done. I am impressed with the abilities and options it has. Some things like abbreviations I did not even realize it had can be customized very nicely. Setting the thing up is so easy that I still am thinking I must be missing some major useful function.

Oh, and because its tipware, I can donate a buck here and a buck there. In the end he gets paid for great software while making me feel thrifty. :)

    "96% Perfect!"

September 22, 2003  |   By Peter da Silva

    Version: Butler 2.0

    Summary

The only shortcoming of this application is I can't use it to replace the one I'm using to simulate the old application menu. It's that close to perfect... I can only fault it for not doing *everything*. :)

The latest version has now replaced two more menu widgets: Displays (I added the display preferences bundle and it launches it perfectly) and the keychain item (which I was using to lock the screen). A couple more and it'll be sitting there with only MenuMeters and the clock to keep it occupied.

I really like this menu bar app. It has many useful features, and is nicely configurable. I even received a quick reply to a question from the developer. So far, so good...

    "disappointing"

    August 15, 2003  |   By .MAC=disappointment

    Version: Butler 1.0b4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This looks like a useful addition to the menu bar and it sounds like earlier versions were less problematic. I had hoped to consolidate from Rocketlauncher, Snard and Safari Menu into one menu app... I thought this would be the one. This is my first time trying out Another Launcher and unfortunately it has been deleted until the wrinkles are smoothed out. I kept ending up with spinning beach balls à la OS 9. At one point the program just quit on me. Too bad, it looks very well thought out in terms of functionality, just needs to function. I'll be back for the next version.

    "Beachball spinner"

Launched it a few times. Every time it essentially bound up my PBG4/10.2.6 with whatever it was doing, which didn't appear to be anything but spinning the beachball. Had to kill it with Process Viewer. Documentation was totally opaque. Why even bother?

I am positively stunned by the all around excellence this of this app. Simply brilliant! This has replaced 4 apps from my startup menu, and still has more functionality than all of them combined! Excellent GUI; everything behaves intuitively. No question this is a top 5 shareware/freeware app. Thank you thank you thank you!

An excellent piece of software. The only thing I can say is that it's the first launcher ever written for both Mac OS and Mac OS X that completely fits my needs. It contains just about every feature one can think of.
