"Awesome!"
Version: Butler 4.0b2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Firstly, although they didn't mention it, they've implemented my Show Desktop request (see previous comment). BRILLIANT...!
Otherwise there are some worthwhile improvements in Butler, and it does pretty much everything that you'd previously use a number of different apps to achieve, and is very nicely implemented to boot.
There's always something more, though, and my requests this time are for an iTunes smart item which pops out an iTunes control strip with all the controls on it in the form of the standard control icons that we all know.
In addition, it would be neat if the excellent iTunes information panel that pops up when tracks change could also optionally display the CD cover graphic in a similar way to the way that Sofa does it. But don't let these minor points detract from the manifest abilities already present in one of my MUST-HAVE utilities. -
"Wonderful, but buggy"
Version: Butler 4.0b1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
On my 1.25 GHz 20" iMac, Butler uses a lot of system resources and seems to occasionally cause my desktop pictures to cycle very fast (every 2 seconds!). Also, occasionally it causes my left mouse click to work only as a contextual menu (control-click) for a minute or so, especially when viewing the Butler help website! Other weird behavior began as soon as I started using Butler. It's a great app which can replace several other apps, but I'm afraid I must trash it and not donate until these bugs are worked out. -
"Awesome Software"

I've been using Another Launcher for months now and Butler is a great step up.
I paid my contribution immediately.
Highly Recommended! -
"Absolutely Awesome"

Can easily replace many of your favorite apps, and do a better job! (launchbar, fruitmenu, pth pasteboard, iSeek etc. etc.). Spend some time learning to use and customize it and you'll absolutely love it. I rarely pay when I don't have to, but for this I did - it's that good. -
"One desired addition..."
Version: Butler 3.2.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Another Launcher is quite wonderful - really impressive and I haven't seen anything else that even comes close to its range of capabilities. There's only one thing that I would like to see - a "Show Desktop" type of functionality, ie "Switch to Finder and Hide all other applications". This could be set as a menubar icon and I would find it invaluable.
I know that there are other ways of doing this - Cmd-Opt clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock or the Desktop, or using Exposé's F11, but none of the alternatives are as quick and convenient as a simple one-click icon in the menu bar.
Another Launcher does have the ability to Hide Other and All applications, and obviously the ability to switch between applications, so providing a combined function like this would be trivial. It's the one thing that I want to do most often, so it would be great if this function could be added. -
"This one won me over"
Version: Butler 3.2.1
Summary

I have been auditioning Drag Thing, Launch Bar, and Another Launcher for the past month or so; this is the one I am paying for. It has remained easy and intuitive to use, even while it's abilities have grown by leaps and bounds. Another Launcher has a feature set that I previously used seven programs to achieve: Tigerlaunch, Synergy, iChoose, ABMenu, PrefsMenu, iSeek, and Safari Menu. Wow!Extraordinarily customizable, actively being refined, and priced right. I like the other two apps I've been trying, but they cost much more and require a bit more tinkering to maintain. This app has never hung on me or failed to perform and the programmer is dynamic and extremely responsive to feedback. Definately in the top 10 of must have OSX free/shareware. -
"So far, so good"
Version: Butler 3.2.1
Summary

I like what I see here. Stable, very flexible, and thus far it's not piggy about RAM (the way a similar, though far less useful, app is). It's also easy to figure out without looking at the manual, always a plus!
This reminds me of the old Now Menus and FinderPOP, but nicer.
One thing I'd like to see is a way to keep selected apps from appearing in the Applications menus. My Applications menu is a pretty long scroll, and it would be very useful to keep hidden utilities etc that I seldom use! -
"Firstly a must try and lastly a must have."

Your imagination is the only limit to the usefulness of
this app. It is a truly excellent piece of software,
design and implementation are once understood
remarkable. Another app that must be tried if you have
not already.A big shout to Peter Maurer, he is developing
an amazing 'donationware' application and deserves our support.
Not just 'AnotherLauncher' but the best Launcher to be found.

"much improved - let's ditch LaunchBar!"
Version: Butler 3.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Thank you, thank you! i finally ditched the overprized LaunchBar today. This app scans the apps folder much faster, because i can limit the depth of the scan (2-3 will do!) and because I can tell it to scan Applications only.
When I enter a keyboard abbreviation, the search is much more responsive now (it wasn't usable before).
If only Another Launcher would remember the window position for the keyboard abbreviation function... But that's a minor wish!
(Also, the window for this function is not clearly set up: what are the radio buttons for? their function is not evident.) -
"Pretty impressive....."
Version: Butler 3.0
Summary

As an avid LaunchBar user, I have to say this is pretty impressive. I think it is a bit more complicated to set up, and not as speedy as LB on my TiBook 500, but all in all quite nice.
