"Best Free CD and DVD Burner"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
Has a simple interface and requires low system resources.
The free version supply all your basic need of a CD and DVD burner.Cons
It lacks a description of each function to better aid newbies.
Summary
After trying this CD/DVD burner I can't imagine why people keep using expensive CD/DVD burners solutions like Nero.
-

-
"Very good freeware choice"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
It works, and works well. Fairly intuitive interface, not a huge footprint on your hard drive.
Cons
When burning a program file to CD, it could be a little more informative/clear in telling what type of disc to burn. (Data CD is the correct choice, btw.)
Summary
Recommended.

"Didn't work with Windows 7"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
How do I know...it wouldn't work.
Cons
Crashed my computer. Had to restart in Safe Mode to delete the program
Summary
None of the information on the program indicated that it didn't work with Windows 7 Home Premium. It doesn't! in a big way. It's fine for XP, but forget it for Windows 7, and I have my doubts about Vista.

"Simple and full functioned"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
Burns images, music, DVD video and of course, data.
Simple interface, drag and drop file implanting and it even handles Blue Ray.Cons
No DVD menu options. You can't build your own custom DVD menu or background image/video.
Beyond that, I see nothing else to point out.
Since it's free, this really isn't much of a con.Summary
For general purpose it's very effective.
I'll use this rather than deal with the garbage Nero clutters up your system with while truly giving you nothing more. Nero is also SLOWER. Slower in all interface functions as well as burning.
If I want to make a DVD with all the trimmings, there's free software for that around.
Mostly, I just want to burn DIVX videos to DVD's, image files and storage data.

"Does just what it says it will"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
The user interface is simple & user friendly, and it does exactly what it says it will. Burning speeds are decent on my equipment and it has not made a single coaster.
Cons
Doesn't make back up copies of copy protected DVD's
Summary
Overall this is a dependable & easy to use program that has done everything it was advertised to

"It might work, but ImgBurn works"
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
Simple interface
Cons
Couldn't get it to work, it might though. Maybe lowering the drive write speed, and software speed to 2X would have done it.
Summary
Burning data to DVD experience
3/4/10
BurnAware did the first copy no problem, but not a second: No Seek Complete.
I tried lowering the write speed before burning:
Win Explorer \ Properties of the CD Drive \ Recording tab \ Select a write speed: 1X \ Apply
The minimum in BurnAware is 2X . . . I put the CD Drive on 2X
Burn process completed successfully
Verify process failed
Nothing showed up on the DVD
Another time, the burn and verify worked, and I had to do a restart to get the DVD out
*****************************************
Ashampoo
Burn process completed successfully. Verify process failed, and nothing showed up on the DVD
I put the drive on 2X from Fastest, worked, but it has weird file name extension: .ashbak
I want it to look the same as on my hard drive.
*****************************************
ImgBurn
Working folders: only these two show up, there is nothing large in them, less than 169 KB
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\ImgBurn\Graph Data Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\ImgBurn\Log Files\
. . .
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\ImgBurn\Project Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\ImgBurn\Queue Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\
C:\Program Files\ImgBurn\Languages\
Win Explorer \ Properties of the CD Drive \ Recording tab \ Select a write speed: 2X \ Apply
Higher speeds take less time, but if they cause errors, select a lower speed
- I didn't notice any difference in the speed between 2X and Fastest, both were about 7 minutes.
- I tried 1X, but found the ImgBurn minimum was 2X. The status showed: Write Speed Miscompare! - it wanted 1,358 KB/s (1x), but got: 2,770 KB/s (2x)
Properties on hard drive of the folder I'm copying:
1.16 GB, 10 files, 2 folders
1 250 961 545 (Size)
1 250 983 936 (Size on disk)
Discovery \ Write Speed \ Change Automatic Write Speed... \ Switched write speed from Max to 2x \ Ok
Mode \ Verify \ [check] Verify Against Image File
Mode \ Ez-Mode Picker \ Write files/folders to disc \ select the folder \ Burn the files \ a small window pops up
Yes, just this folder \ Yes, take this volume label
1 250 961 545 same Size as the hard drive ... Sectors: 610,286
1,251,573,760 Image Size (this is different), Image Sectors: 611,120
Win Explorer \ Properties of the DVD show nothing after the burn \ Restart \ properties show as: 1 251 545 088 (this is different) ... 1.16 GB
ImgBurn \ Discovery \ Shows 1 251 573 760 ... 611,120 sectors
I compared file sizes on the hard drive to file sizes on the DVD. They were the same, the software did not show any errors, so it seems like it worked. -
"Fast, clean , simple."
Version: BurnAware Free 2.4.4
Pros
Speed, lack of bloat, does what it says on the tin.
Cons
Nothing found yet.
Summary
Installs and works straight out of the box, very clean interface. An object lesson in program design for big players who seem to think large hard discs are an invitation to fill them up!
