Burning data, music, and videos to a disc saves space and allows use of media on the go. Burn for Mac is a capable and free alternative to native programs, albeit with a simple interface and limited features.
Burn for Mac doesn't require any upgrades in order to function. The small download was quick and we had no difficulty installing the program. Instructions and support are lacking, but the program's interface was fairly intuitive for those who have experience using other types of disc-burning software. File names may be manually inputted, but there is also a welcome drag-and-drop method included. Large buttons are labeled with the different categories of discs to burn, as well as functions for copying CDs and DVDs. Unfortunately, there seemed to be no way to rearrange CD tracks. Features are limited to burning discs for data, audio, and video, which is what one would expect for a freeware program. Although the program has few output format choices, the options available are sufficient for most uses. The process of burning CDs is simple, and the resulting discs played effectively.
For those who don't have or want to use native software programs for burning discs, Burn for Mac, while simple, is an effective freeware program.

"Garbage. Don't get burned by Burn."

I used Burn to duplicate an audio CD. All seemed to go well: When I loaded the newly burned CD-R back into my MacBook Pro, the original track list appeared in iTunes with correct titles and times. So far so good. But during playback every track was completely silent. Huh? And yes, my iTunes and OS volumes were up. I even tried the CD-R on a stand alone disc player hooked up to my stereo. Same effect: silence while the track played.
Summary
Burn represents the internet's biggest drawback: too much noise and not enough signal. After researching some forums for freeware, spending time tracking down this particular program, downloading it, installing it, figuring out the basics and trying it out... well, the effort just wasn't worth the product's utter and absolute failure. Instead of wasting zero time and just dropping a relatively nominal amount of money on a proven product like Toast, I went the cheap route and got what I deserved: wasted hours. Is your time valuable? No? Then Burn is perfect for you!

Cannot edit playlists or order of any items within the program. I tried burning a dvd to play on my girlfriend's dvd player. Movie burned successfully and I'm able to play it on my computer, but all three dvd players I tried it on would not play dvd (including my playstation 3 which supports more styles of dvds). I tried again with another dvd and changed the settings slightly thinking I may have used the wrong settings, but still it would not play.

I had just purchased a new imac with Lion. After creating an imovie for my granddaughters softball team I went to burn the movie onto 12 separate DVD's. One for each player. Thats when I discovered imac no longer bumdles idvd on imacs. I needed to get this done in a short time so I needed a quick fix. I thought that Burn would be the answer. WRONG. Of the 12 DVD's I burned, 12 had some sort of problem. Each one either wouldn't play at all in a standard DVD player or the video skipped and jumped all through the video. I had wasted 12 DVDs. After lots of research I purchased Toast titanium 11 and it works perfectly. Reburned all the DVD's in Toast and not one single complaint. You really get what you pay for. Burn is free for a reason.

As someone else mentioned, Burn has zero flexibility on the track arranging screen. you can't rearrange tracks you have dragged into the project, and even though there is a function to remove tracks from the list, it doesn't work. so you actually have to close the program and open it again if you want to remove something from the list or start a new list. For such a simple thing, this drawback is completely stupid and amateurish!
Summary
I downloaded the program about a half hour ago and found this simple shortcoming so stupid, I decided to take the time to write this review. This program is probably perfect for copying a cd, where the track list is already set.

Many frustrating errors, it crashes a bit too often for my liking, and it seems to be missing some absolutely critical features to making a decent burning app.

-Can't remove a track once you've added it (ya, that means if you accidentally add a wrong track to the cd you're burning, you gotta start all over)

overall, pretty disappointing after reading so many 5 star reviews. This is a bush-league app, and if its open source, they need to get some more developers to do it right.
