"Can stop your PC from starting up. Do not try it out !"
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Pros
None, it might stop your PC from starting up.
Cons
It might stop your PC from starting up. It is unsafe to use and should not be made available for download.
Summary
After setting a new bootscreen and rebooting, my PC showed the new bootscreen for a few seconds and then the screen went black. The harddisk activity stopped and that was it. To recover I had to boot into safe mode (press F8 at startup) and then start Bootskin to disable it (set it to the original Windows boot screen).

"It may work fo4r some but it doesn't work on my system"
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Pros
good idea and probably nice.
Cons
Al versions create a blue screen on my system. I think technology has moved past this software, and it is no longer compatible.
Summary
It's a shame to not be able to use it. It causes a BSOD on all versions for me and my particular setup. Someone should update this software.

"few small hiccups to begin with, probably user driven."
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Pros
i think it is great, but then i have windows live one care looking after things for me, had to reboot a few times to get it right, but since the initial small hiccups it has been fantastic.
Cons
i have had it for a few weeks now and can find no faults with it as yet.

"TOTALY DESTRUCTIVE...KEEP AWAY!!!"
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Cons
Kill BOOT SECTOR and must reinstall Windows from the start
-
"Excellent but unnecessary"
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Pros
Safe (for me at least) and easy way to customize your bootscreen. There are plenty of skins you can download
Cons
None that i have encountered. I didn't get any problems while using it.
Summary
Despite not having any cons (for me, i wonder how the others get problems) it's not really a necessary thing. It' not like you'd want to see you bootscreen for an extended period of time anyway, no matter how pretty it is. For those with problems, Stardock says you should try a different version. Just check out the details from their site.

"Best avoided, caused me a lot of hassle...."
Version: BootSkin 1.05a
Cons
I was a bit wary of BootSkin, as any change to the Boot screen in XP involves patching the kernel, something BootSkin claimed not to do. So I thought I'd give it a try, downloaded it and changed my boot screen.
I'd been getting the odd BSOD before I installed it, as this was then a new installation of XP Professional so maybe you'd expect to get 1 or 2 BSODs when reinstalling an OS.
For this reason I didn't suspect straight away that BootSkin was causing a problem. I reinstalled my video and soundcard drivers and made sure that all my system's drivers were all signed and up to date.
Still the intermittent BSODs continued, so I finally realised that BootSkin was probably the culprit and uninstalled it. Since uninstalling BootSkin my PC has been running perfectly without a single BSOD.
It seems that BootSkin overwrites the same memory area that the original boot screen does, resulting in BSOD crashes. Apparently there are other versions that may be compatible with other systems that have had this common BSOD problem, but I don't think that I want to change my boot screen badly enough to want to try them.
