  Eventually, I found there is some sorting performed. But only for bookmarks visible on screen in the bookmarks bar. Bookmarks normally accessed by the drop down menu on the far right are not sorted. Manually sorted into one or more folders that is then placed visibly on the bar will produce sorting inside that/those folders.
  
  Deserves more than 1 star but requires a lot of manual intervention.

  Hi, Fredric here, the creator of Bookmark Sorter. I'm sorry you didn't manage to sort all of your bookmarks. Perhaps you could help me to fix this problem that you're having?
  
  I wonder what you mean by "bookmarks normally accessed by the drop down menu on the far right?"
  
  Bookmark Sorter alphabetically sorts Safari's internal file of bookmarks, i.e. the list of bookmarks that you can see by selecting "Show All Bookmarks" in Safari's Bookmarks-menu (or by selecting Alt-Cmd-B when Safari is active). These are all of the bookmarks listed in the bookmarks bar combined with all other bookmarks listed in the Bookmarks-menu.
  
  The idea with Bookmark Sorter is of course to sort all of Safari's bookmarks. You can reach me at support@softpinch.com if you would be so kind as to explain which menu you mean by the one "on the far right?"
