BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac User Reviews

"No it doesn't work"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.2.1.7
Pros
None until it works
Cons
It can't find the Mac Address Book. Either this is Apple's fault (ie. they're trying to ring fence Address Book to only synch with the icloud) or BB's fault (it can't find the right directory). I think I'll fiddle with my Mac's permissions, but I din't think that will help.

"I cannot sync my devices now!"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.2.1.7
Pros
Easy to install
Cons
I don't know if it is iCloud or the new Blackberry software update, but I now cannot sync my calendars and contacts between my Mac and Blackberry! I have spent several hours on the phone with AppleCare and they cannot find a solution. I don't even know how I could contact Blackberry. Aaagh!

"RIM's best inducement to buy an iPhone"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.2.1.7
Pros
East to install
Cons
Doesn't work
Summary
On my Mac, Desktop Manager can't even see iCal much less sync it. It won't back up my phone and it only pretends to sync my contacts (everything looks good until you check your BB and the contacts haven't updated). The worst of it is, this software used to work and RIM has messed it up.

"Abysmal is right!"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.2.0.17
Pros
There are no pros to this upgrade. Don't do it if you have a Mac!
Cons
After i upgraded and synced my BB to iCal, it made duplicates and triplicates of entires. Had to restore iCal from Time Capsule to get the calendar back to where it was before the sync, but now BB still has the duplicates and triplicates of entries, with no easy way to get rid of them!
Summary
Loved my BB until the worldwide crash, then this just put me over the edge! No benefit to me if I cannot sync my calendars. So ready to get an iPhone!

"ICAL & TASKS WILL NOT SYNC"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.2.0.17
Pros
THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO SAY NICE ABOUT THIS. MAKE A PRODUCT THAT WORKS WITH MAC. I STILL WANNA USE MY BLACKBERRY BUT I CAN'T SYNC MY ICAL WITH IT! WTHECK!
Cons
THERE ARE NO PRO'S...OLDER VERSION WORKED. I HV LION OS. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH LION!
Summary
C'MON RIM....DO SOMETHING OR I SMELL AN IPHONE/IPAD IN MY FUTURE!

"Still a very poor attempt as a desktop manager"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.1.1.7
Pros
Will sync and backup.
Cons
WILL NOT DO ONE WAY SYNC. Tends to kill data on BB.
Summary
Several years ago there was a third party desktop manager that worked well with BB & Mac. BB stopped them and came out with this junk. I use my phone less and less these days.

"Buggy and poorly tested"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.0.1.14
Pros
The only thing I can think of is that it easily lets you see how much media space you've used
Cons
Difficult or impossible to sync, constantly uses up huge amounts of CPU while not doing anything. Doesn't handle importing or exporting media well at all.
Summary
I had this installed for a while for managing media, and I just had to get rid of it as it was so terrible. Every time I plugged my BB in, it would open, promptly spin up to nearly 100% CPU usage, and slow everything else down until I closed it. When it does work, it doesn't do what I want, as it doesn't provide a usable interface for syncing audio/video. The 'import media' option causes the program to hang every time I use it.
In short, if you have access to a PC you're better off using that, or Dropbox to transfer files from your BB to your Mac. -
"Real piece of crap"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.0.1.14
Pros
There are no positive aspects of this software.
Cons
Deletes stuff you don't want deleted from calendars it should have no access to.
Won't sync "One Way"Summary
This software sucks. It used to be somewhat tolerable in that you could sync from your computer to your blackberry, but that option is gone. Now you have to create a special calendar for blackberry items for it to write to, and then it wants to delete anything that is not already on the blackberry. This has turned my blackberry into a pretty much useless piece of crap. It's a phone and does email, period. Good thing I have an iPhone for my personal device because the blackberry just sucks.

"Performs all the things expected from such a program"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.0.1.14
Pros
Simple, fast, reliable
Cons
Not many customization options

"WORKS IN 64-BIT MODE!!!"
Version: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 2.0.1.14
Pros
Syncs with iTunes, iCal, Address Book and NOW works in 64-bit mode!
Cons
A little too primitive with options when there are synchronizing conflicts- I'd like an option to delete both instances when they occur, but at least there's the option to choose the correct or preferred source.
Summary
FINALLY WORKS IN 64-BIT MODE!
JUST PERCHANCE I downloaded and installed this update and rebooted while still in 64-bit mode and plugged in my Bold 9700. MUCH to my surprise, in the lower left of the window there was the words displayed; "Connecting..." Boom! It popped up as connected, I clicked Sync and, guess what? It SYNC'D! Now there's NO reason to boot in 32-bit mode... awesome!
