    "Don't download: dangerous!"

    December 25, 2014  |   By peergin

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

    None at all.

    Cons

    See below!

    Summary

    I do not understand:
    (1) how download.com can allocate 4-1/2 stars to this piece of rubbish. Would the editor please have a look at the various User Reviews? He will find that this Editor's Review is also wide off the mark. This happens so often that I do not read any Editor's Reviews anymore. Instead I go straight for the User Reviews. Then I can't go wrong.
    (2) why download.com bases its average rating on ALL versions instead of on just the CURRENT version only. Rating ALL versions (which does not even include the current version) is useless. Nobody is interested in OLD versions. For example if a product has improved over time the average rating (which, as I said, excludes the current version) will still reflect poorly on the product because of its poor performance in the past.

"Excellent piece of mallware disguised as anti virus"

    December 6, 2014  |   By Kilopip

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

Your computer will be super fast once you uninstall this piece of cowpie. The company will also make sure to take your money year after year even if you don't use this product anymore thanks to the wonders of opt-out only auto renewal you unknowingly signed up for when you first purchased it. This will guarantee endless hours of fun as you try and figure out the "auto renewal opt-out" puzzle and many fun interactions with their incompetent customer support.

    Cons

The firewall actually lets you use the internet sometimes. I was hoping to block all traffic with it, isn't that what the firewall is supposed to do? It also only allows sponsored mallware and viruses to take root in your hard drive. I was hoping for more of a monthly sampler of all current virus and mallware software, but I guess it is curated experience.

    Summary

If you want you pc to run like last one you threw out this is a product for you! And all that at a low cost of $90 a year life time subscription. It is more likely for you to die of old age before you get product support or your refund from them. Enjoy life long back door trojan you just paid good money for.

    "FIREWALL DOWN ALL THE TIME"

    November 29, 2014  |   By Cucuyo1968

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

Good web pages malware catch up

    Cons

SINCE I DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLED THIS ANTIVIRUS, EVERY TIME I OPEN A PROGRAM, THE FIREWALL GOES DOWN! THAT IS ENOUGH TO NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

    Summary

I tried to contact them to solve the problem because one thing I like from it and was the web checking about malwares, is good, but the issue about the firewall and no possible contact with them...is kind of bad. So, make your choice, my rating is 1 star... so is your decision in case you are thinking to download it.

"Not worth the issues it caused"

    November 17, 2014  |

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

    Good antivirus but see below..

    Cons

It seriously impacted my computer's performance. Slow start-ups, occasional blue screens, difficult to turn off at times, etc. All stopped being issues after Bitdefender was uninstalled.

BUT the worst is the auto-renewal. You'll forget you did it and if you miss the email warning you're screwed--getting a refund is pure hell. Google others having the same issue if you don't believe me. It's been a problem for years and Bitdefender does nothing to address it.

    Summary

Not worth the hassles to your computer or with their billing.

"Months of connectivity woes/BD worse than malware!"

    November 3, 2014  |   By bernynhel

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

Pros? HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!....

    Cons

bd autopilot - which is why i bought bd because it promised to make all bd settings for me over a short time as from my according to my daily habits but when I started having major connectivity, wi-fi, network woes it never occurred to me it was because of bd/autopilot - worse that any malware than bd was able to prevent, detect or remove from my sys

bd support replied giving me stupid tasks to perform like to provide them w/syslogs apparantly pretending that they dont already know all about a bug bd let infect my system in the first plave even when I wrote to them and named the bug -astromenda - already world famous and in a zillion google results

even if totally unwanted/ignored and never enabled bd safepay enables itself as a chrome extension and pops up every time you go to online banking or any online merchant.

    Summary

if you have suffered connectivity and network/wifi issues after installing bitdefender consider yourself lucky! check this out!

bitdefender total security 2015 (bd) let astromenda malware (astro) on my pc and then a full system scan not only didnt fix it but the malware basically gave bd a major spanking even going so far that the bd scan could not produce a scan log or any evidence that it ever performed any scan at all - and this is immediately after the scan completed declaring that i was "protected" - if thats protected i shudder to think what kind of contraceptives bd is using!

so when i tried to contact bd support, their support tool was immediately crushed by astro - the progression bar never moved and the status indicators went immediately from "1. welcome" to "5. finish" which means that it skipped "2. confirm details 3. issue type and 4. reproduce issue" stopping with the "finish" indicator highlighted but the "continue" tile at the bottom still grayed out, inactive and it stayed that way when i left it to go out and with no change when i got back over an hour later. i had reproduced the issue, astro's home page, and was running the support tool on top of it as requested. so bd's support tool was rendered entirely flaccid along with their sec suite.

so i emailed bd and attached a .jpg of astro that i photographed with a digicam since i couldnt make a screen capture of astro and here is their reply:

    "Dear xxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for contacting Bitdefender. In order to respond to your Customer Care request, ticket no: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, we ask that you please provide us the below data, depending on the situation you encountered:

SITUATION 1: Bitdefender found an infection on your computer and for some reason didn't manage to remove the infected file.
REQUESTED ACTION: Run a System Scan and send us the resulting scan report.
You can find all the steps on how to do that in our article: (link)

SITUATION 2: You believe your computer is infected and the Bitdefender System Scan didn't find the infection
REQUESTED ACTION: Send us the following information in order to assist you:

    a) a BDsys log. In order to generate the log, please follow the steps from our article: (link)

    b) one or more screenshots displaying the effects of the infection

    c) a detailed description of the situation"

i already told them it was astromenda, sent them a picture and they obviously had dealt with this kind of thing before since the only focus of their boiler plate reply email involves only 2 situations: 1.bd's inability to remove an infected file and 2. bd's inability to even find an infected file so why is bd messing with me??? cuz believe me, bd, i am NOT the one!

shortly thereafter i opened the settings in my google chrome for some unrelated thing and guess what greeted me there? that's right! a big popup informing me that, "Chrome detected that some of your settings were corrupted by another program and reset them to their original defaults.(link)"

seriously? bd?? and you need me to gather what and send it where? well i may have a suggestion or two of my own about what bd can gather and even where they can stuff it so it will be protected, too.

at that point i simply googled "astromenda" and in the 34,899,606 links on the 1st page of results alone, were an equal amount of friendly people and places all ready to help me get rid of astro immediately and i wouldnt even have to do or send them anything to get them to stop pretending that they dont already know exactly what astromenda is!!!

and one of those fine places was xxxxx.com where I have learned through reading a few hundred similar posts and threads that all of my months of network and connectivity agony and aggravation and, at one point an entire day of work lost because i had felt that i needed to contact my isp and upgrade to their ultra-for-idiot-savant-geeks-only-extreme internet service and the new modem i had to install took all day to acquire its activation code was due directly to my bd settings!

not settings i selected. not even settings i was instructed to make because i bought bd because they said i could be on "autopilot" and could just go about my little daily doings and id never even know they were there, working hard for me, keeping me protected.

well, at least they got part of that right! the part where i had no idea what could possibly be wrong with my network situation because, you see, the problems didnt start when i installed bd as they apparently had with the lucky ones who install bd and then choose all their own setting here. they evolved over time, thanks to bd's autopilot "getting to know you" period. its just too bad that while bd's autopilot was getting to know me that it never understood that im a sole user with one profile at home where i live alone using the same desktop and a wi fi laptop on a secured router and that there was never any need for any of the ultra-paranoid settings bd's autopilot took upon itself to impose on my daily browsing on sites like youtube and effing ebay

all of this ive discovered since joining my firs malware forum a couple of days ago. lucky me.

so ill be demanding a refund from bd on the 263 days i have left and putting that towards kapersky - something i should have done from the gate and something that doesnt get up in my wifi and network business, i recommend that anyone reading this here or at the next 20,000 places i intend to paste this review do, similarly

and btw, whats up with bd safepay? i never even enabled it or added it to any browser extension or plug in but every time i log in to online banking or try to order some internet stuff or even buy a ball cap online, there's the little safe pay pop up every time with its tongue hanging out like one of those little dogs thats always trying to hump a leg.

i know ill never get any of my life back that was wasted on bd but at least i wont be squandering any more of it

    "Very disappointing"

    August 27, 2014  |   By nu3413

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

    The scan is fast.

    Cons

Black screen upon startup of the computer for over a minute. Computer crashes. Bugs (manage scans does not work, system scan does not work). Uninstall issues when trying to do a fresh install. Customer Service sucks, they promise to reply, they never do. I paid and got a useless software.

    Summary

I am unable to understand how this software got such good reviews. With practically no customer service, bugs, black screen, computer crashes, its a bad antivirus software. I will not renew my license and will look for an anti virus that has a proper customer service that first of all replies and later does solve issues. I definitely do not recommend Bitdefender.

"Way too heavy, slows down PC"

    August 13, 2014  |   By V_Burneski

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 18.12.0.958

    Pros

    - Always in the top 2 anti-virus software
    - Highest virus, malware and harmful websites detection
    - Greating looking interface
    - Many features
    - Easy to use and understand

    Cons

    - Way too heavy
    - Slows down PC ( unless it's a high-end PC )
    - Kind of slow disk defragmenter

    Summary

Well, this anti-virus really offers a great protection to its customers, it's really great looking and contains a lot of features which are useful and helpful, however in my case the cons are more important than the pros stated.
From the moment I installed it, I noticed my PC was being slower than from before, took a lot more time to start up and in general my RAM usage was higher. I guess that's because this anti virus has 2 engines and most of the anti-virus softwares use only 1, the more engines the higher RAM usage and less performance.
Due to the performance problem honestly I do not recommend this anti virus, unless your PC is a high-end one so you dont notice a lot of slowing down, however I'd recommend it if you do not really care so much about performance ( ex. you're not gaming/ using some heavy softwares ) and all you care for is protection.
