"DO Not Buy. Worst company I have encountered in 40 yrs"

    February 13, 2009  |   By got2old

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 2009

    Pros

No Pros It never worked. My bad dial up connection took 18+ hrs to download, then it would not work.

    Cons

Yes Bit Defender is a CON. They took my money $47.20. No humans to help. No Anti Virus!
3 months of e-mails, phone calls - NOTHING!

    Summary

Purchased in October of 2008 for 3 P'C's. Tried to download, took 18 hours with our very rural dial up connection. Then it wouldn't install on Windows XP. e-mailed Bit Defender, they said I had to buy their Backup CD for installation, I Bought. They sent wrong Backup CD. I e mailed again. The sent wrong Backup again. This went on four more times. Finally wrote letter to CEO. Three weeks later got a call from Bit Defender office in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl . saying they were sending correct CD the next day. Three more weeks and correct CD finally arrived - 4 months of frustration & hassel during which time I bought a progam from another vender. I'm out $47.20 Would never - ever consider trying to use Bit Defender. The worst software company I have ever encountered in my 40 years of computing. BUYER BEWARE

"Crappy software for Win XP-SP3. Performance was LOUSY!"

    January 24, 2009  |

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 2009

    Pros

To be honest, the only "pro" I found was that it installed--sort-of. It also started a system scan--sort-of. You can change from basic to Advanced views of its control panel.

    Cons

Took Windows XP four times as long to reboot after installing BitDefender (BD) as it did with AVG Pro 7.5. Failure to initialize errors for some BD files after reboot. Attempt to scan resulted in death of several legit software programs' exe files.

    Summary

It's lucky for me--and especially for BitDefender's developers--that I decided to install the trial version to try before making a decision to pay money for it. I hate any software that takes it upon itself to delete the primary exe files of software that I have bought with my own hard-earned money and have to spend several minutes that I don't really have to spare reinstalling what it destroyed.

I work with graphics a lot, and I use ACDSee to organize and quickly find photos for various Web applications and publications. After installing BD and running a system scan that seemed to take forever, I found that it had deleted the ACDSee executable file. It wasn't in a quarantine folder, and it wasn't in the Recycle Bin, either. It was gone! I had to stop my work and go through all the installed software folders manually to find which program exe files BD had taken upon itself to delete.

Before I installed the trial version of BD Antivirus, I had a clean machine that was working exactly the way it was supposed to work. I do now, too, AFTER reinstalling about 3/4 of my software, some of which were expensive.

I just THOUGHT that AVG Pro 8 was bad because of the way it dragged my system down and slowed it to a snail's pace! At least AVG didn't systematically attack every exe file on my computer. BitDefender Antivirus 2009 is worse than any of the viruses it pretends to protect! Talk about a Win-Nuke!

I will never try one of their products again, much less buy anything they make. I strongly urge everyone to avoid installing BitDefender -- and certainly avoide paying anything for it.

"AntiVirus is pretty good, but support & utilities bad."

    January 3, 2009  |   By Nahee_Enterprises

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 2009

    Pros

The AntiVirus is kept up-to-date constantly and is usually able to find most problems that other similar applications cannot find.

    Cons

The Security Center utility, and some other "tool" programs, did not always work. Got a lot of "Critical Error" messages with those parts of the application, but never could get a resolution from support (either through email, chat, or other ways).

    Summary

Constant problems with the supplied software and lack of decent technical support leads me to suggest that people should not purchase this application. Our organization was looking for the best product to replace our existing software, and during the testing phase of BitDefender 2009, we had problems on every machine used during testing (Windows XP, Vista, etc...). The hassle of support alone would cause me not to use BitDefender even if it was completely FREE.

"Regardless of features - don't buy"

    December 19, 2008  |   By TomDavisDallas

Version: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015 2009

    Pros

    It worked OK

    Cons

    Auto renew is unstoppable.

    Summary

The computer I had Bitdefender installed on is no longer in service, after twice trying to turn off "auto renew" as well as trying to find an actual oerson to talk to, they billed me anyway. Horrible business practices - there are way too many options to take this from a company.
