"2 many probs and limits for my LG VX9700 & VX8575."

    August 19, 2010  |   By olzab

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

Can move some items, but not contacts on my phones. Minimally useful.

    Cons

Can't move or manage contacts on the Dare. It takes much too long to find this out.

    Summary

I didn't discover the contacts issue til deep into my attempts to make bitpim work. And I learned the limitation from another website, not bitpim list archives, and thought it should've been easier to learn. I could never even figure out how to search the bitpim mailing lists. After too many hours trying this and that, I gave up and got dataPilot 6.1 at susteen.com. Their help could be a lot better, but I got my contacts managed, synced, and backed up to my own storage spots. With DataPilot, finally I can edit my LG contacts on my xp puter and move them back and forth to multiple devices with ease! Just so you know, I do not work for Susteen, only heard of them yesterday!

    "Very Useful"

    May 29, 2010  |   By Syncytium

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

Controls are fairly easy to use (less complicated than you might expect for it's function), Does what the carrier expected users to pay $40 for in file access and transfer.

    Cons

Developers take a while to add compatibility for new models

    Summary

This program made getting my pictures off of my phone a breeze (the way it should have been in the first place. It also allows access to the phone's full memory which could be useful in a great number of situations.

    "Didn't work for me."

    April 17, 2010  |   By MsCoulter

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

Obviously it does work well for others.

    Cons

The version I downloaded did not see my LGvx5500 phone at all (yes I installed the driver for it). Once I manually upgraded to the latest version it recognized my phone but would not import data from it. I kept getting cryptic errors.

    Summary

If you already have the wire, go ahead and try, but I wouldn't purchase a USB wire counting on this to work.

"Verizon is starting to charge to transfer contacts"

    February 20, 2010  |   By Robf911

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

Seems to work great as a contacts backup, and for downloaded ringers...etc.
Saves you from having to pay to transfer your contacts. They will be charging $10 even if it is a warranty issue! New device, same thing. This is free..

    Cons

Doesn't backup games, and can easily be manipulated so as to bugger up your phone.

    Summary

Good free program, just be careful ...

"Wonderful Worked without having LG 10000 phone unlocked"

    February 4, 2010  |   By Bobbi2450

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

I was able to download all of my text messages and save and print them from my PC.

    Cons

It would not allow me to download texts because my LG 10000 phone was locked by Verizon Wireless so I upgraded to BitPrim 1.0.7.

    Summary

I had to go through and read about the various upgrades when 1.0.4 version didn't work the first time. Once I found the version that would work with my LG it worked great and allowed me to save and print my text messages, which I needed for court.

"Excellent, as basic programs go, regardless of cost."

    November 14, 2009  |   By Sofonisba_7

    Version: BitPim 1.0.4

    Pros

As far as basic programs go for accessing and updating your phone's information, BitPim has been very helpful to me over the years. There ARE other programs out there that will do what BitPim does, but often, you can only get trial versions of them.

    Cons

As implied above, if you want more bells and whistles, and a program that makes it crystal clear exactly what you're changing and where, you'll want to go for something more extensive; just be prepared to pay for it later.

    Summary

As long as the version of BitPim that you download works with your phone, it's a great program for allowing you to access the basic information in your phone. I was able to use BitPim also, with no problems, to create my own ringtones, and enjoyed doing so, as it was made easy for me by the program.

When I recently upgraded to the LG EnV Touch, I originally thought that I wouldn't be able to get BitPim to work (going by online commentary), but Version 1.0.7 works GREAT with that make and model of phone. Thanks to BitPim, I wasn't stuck manually re-entering my calendar information, notepad entries, and other data. Other reviews did, however, warn of using BitPim to transfer contacts, then being COMPLETELY unable to add any more contacts after granting BitPim access to that area of my phone, so I just continue to use Backup Manager from Verizon Wireless to do that. Be careful when you're tinkering with your phone with BitPim (or any other program, for that matter), but rest assured that if you're sensible, it should do exactly what you want and need it to.
