  I have not had any problems with this program before.

  Cons

  - Won't install as it says MSVCP71.dll is missing. - There is not a help support for this program. If there is, you have to subscribe to their mailing list. Although that is partially because this is a Open Source program.

  Summary

  It really isn't a bad program and had no troubles with it before. that is until I upgraded this computer to Windows 7. I would give this a full 5 but since I cannot find help for why it says it is missing this MSVCP71.dll, I have to ding it a bit.

• This program wiped all picture and videos off my phone!

  Summary

  It told me it could not detect my phone or port in use so I thought I'd wasted my time downloading it . I have an LG900G prepaid phone through NET10. Since it didn't detect the phone, I didn't think it did anything nor did I check the phone. Today I went to look at a pic on my phone and found the file was empty. Went to the video file and found the same thing, an empty file. I had originally downloaded this to try to transfer a video from my phone that I couldn't do through SD card as the slot had been damaged by my dog.

  Free? Nothing good to say.

  Cons

  The first time I plugged in the phone it asked me to download my ringtones. I thought, no big deal. It wiped my phone address book clean. Where is it? There is no customer support.

  Summary

  Back up online with Sprint for $ 2 instead of doing this Free Software. BitPim says right on their web page not ask them any questions as they do nit provide support. My bad for not checking first.

  It caused my Samsung Instinct S30 to hard reset, with no warning. I was just trying to connect the program to the phone when it happened. Beware!!

  easy to download and install itself.

  Cons

  did NOT recognize either of my cell phones, did NOT allow me to transfer ANY info from them to my computer to put into my newer phone, offered NO assistance as to HOW to accomplish these things. at this point, I wasted $$ on the USB connection wires.

  Summary

  waste of time and $. the only way I can move pictures, sounds, ringtones from my Sprint ( not smart phone ) which I've had for about 2 years, to my newer Spring phone, is to go to a Sprint service store, pay someone more $$ to try to attempt the same thing with their equipment.... meanwhile I'm still stuck with this newer phone *somewhat unhappily* under contract, for TWO MORE YEARS !!!

• BitPim keeps getting better

  Pros

  Auto detects phone. Able to extract contacts, edit(add remove contacts) using keyboard instead of keypad and replace of move to a new phone.

  Cons

  Did not talk directly to Droid. Had to email contacts via Gmail to Droid, then able to install. Obscure method but it did work.

  Summary

  I started using this program years ago when I got a new phone that didn't have the ability to exchange contacts with Outlook. I was able to store, edit and transfer my contacts with my computer from the old phone to the new phone. The original version of BitPim required looking up model number of the phone. That process has been automated. I haven't tried the new BitPim, but I used to have my own ringtones made from mp3 clips from the first version I used. I'm certain the new one must have that feature and if it does, I'm sure it works just fine. I gave it 4 instead of five stars because I want the makers of BitPim to give up and keep on making this handy program better.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jan 31, 2011<p/>couple of typos but it gets the point across. Like to be able to edit this review. I do not want the makers of BitPim to give up, I want them NOT to give up.

  Pros

  Can move some items, but not contacts on my phones. Minimally useful.

  Cons

  Can't move or manage contacts on the Dare. It takes much too long to find this out.

  Summary

  I didn't discover the contacts issue til deep into my attempts to make bitpim work. And I learned the limitation from another website, not bitpim list archives, and thought it should've been easier to learn. I could never even figure out how to search the bitpim mailing lists. After too many hours trying this and that, I gave up and got dataPilot 6.1 at susteen.com. Their help could be a lot better, but I got my contacts managed, synced, and backed up to my own storage spots. With DataPilot, finally I can edit my LG contacts on my xp puter and move them back and forth to multiple devices with ease! Just so you know, I do not work for Susteen, only heard of them yesterday!

• Wouldn't copy contacts from to Microsoft Outlook 2007.

  Copied info from phone to computer under BITPIM program easily.

  Wouldn;t copy to Outlook 2007 or recognize HTC Incredible phone or IPOD Touch 2nd gen.

  Summary

  Gave it a try, just didn't do what I expected.

  Pros

  Controls are fairly easy to use (less complicated than you might expect for it's function), Does what the carrier expected users to pay $40 for in file access and transfer.

  Cons

  Developers take a while to add compatibility for new models

  Summary

  This program made getting my pictures off of my phone a breeze (the way it should have been in the first place. It also allows access to the phone's full memory which could be useful in a great number of situations.
