    "The Best FTP Client. Period."

    July 10, 2013  |   By markhamf

    Version: BitKinex 3.2.3

    Pros

    1) Free
    2) Multi-part Downloads
    3) Supports Automation
    4) Multiple Protocol Support

    Cons

    1) Interface requires getting used to
    2) Not actively maintained anymore

    Summary

Users complaining about adware are actually talking about the adware issues cnet were having with their own cnet installer.

Download this directly from the vendor's website: there is ABSOLUTELY NO adware.

Plus, it's an absolutely fantastic product: I haven't found a better FTP client (paid or free); and I have seriously searched.

    Thanks, BitKinex!!

    "Powerful FTP Client."

    May 26, 2013  |   By SteamRollin

    Version: BitKinex 3.2.3

    Pros

    Very fast upload/download
File splitting/download allows the ftp client to split file into different parts to download faster
    Freeware

    Cons

    Difficult learning curve
    Hard to understand ftp lingo
Using CNET downloader may GIVE YOU adware if you do not read the installation instructions. (not the adware itself)

    Summary

Anyone who says this comes with adware must be mistaken, first of all lets explain freeware. Freeware is that free, in order for some programs to continue they need a source of income, and that is how many freeware programs get by, by allowing some programs to be slip streamed into the instillation, this however, does not mean that it forces the software without your knowing, i figure that many of the people who posted a review before me are the types of people who do not read anything, usually install using the "typical" settings, that is where the 3rd party software comes in, if you have even a worth of patience, which judging by the reviewer WHO LIKES TALKING LIKE THIS does not. I installed this software into a clean Windows 7 Operating system, i don't even think it came with the third party software, but if it did, i always do custom install, i leave the installation directory as is, but i READ what is being installed, if I see anything besides the software i press cancel that's how you avoid freeware 3rd party software, many companies do this it does not mean they have malevolent intentions, it is because they need to fund a project somehow.

I'd like to conclude that the software runs great, i have used ftp programs such as CuteFTP, SmartFTP, Filezilla, etc and though each one has their own strong spots, Bitkinex is a perfect balance of all. I mentioned in the cons that it may have a difficult learning curve, do not be discouraged! once you begin to use the features and toy with it, you will become very familiarized with the programs features/lingo.

The main thing i love about this program is file segmentation, if you have 1 large file, the program attempts to split the one large file into many (you can specify in options aka DATA Sources how many pieces) so that you can max out your home/work connection when transferring files... FTP programs such as Filezilla do not support this.. which is why a very large file may only download at 140 kB/s. with the proper settings (default works fine, but always room to improve) you will be downloading files at your max connection. FTP has long since suffered slow transfer rates, and this really helps you get your files faster! also this ftp has pause/resume great for if you are downloading a very large file then suddenly need a smaller file. (also depends on the eerver you are downloading from)

clients such SmartFTP/CuteFTP suffer with file segmentation because you usually have to tell the client to download a specific folder/file in segmented parts before you begin the download.. Bitkinex does it automatically.

the gui could be better but hey this is freeware! all the features are there and you just need to toy around a bit, it won't hurt none.

Conclusion: I am very pleased with this FTP client, i don't think i will be using any other for a long time.. I have used many clients and overall this program is the best (in my opinion) so try it out for yourself! (btw you can just download this program directly from the main project website to avoid cnet downloader giving you adware/crapware.)

    enjoy!

    "GARBAGE!!!!"

    May 8, 2013  |   By 46Tbird

    Version: BitKinex 3.2.3

    Pros

NONE, I COULDN'T GET PAST THE MALWARE TO USE THE PIECE OF SOFTWARE I INTENDED TO DOWNLOAD.

    Cons

LOADED A TON OF MALWARE ON MY COMPUTER, THANKS A LOT CNET. I THOUGHT YOU PROTECTED USERS FROM THAT GARBAGE. NOW I GET TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO REMOVE "SWEETPACKS" AND "WAJAM" FROM ALL MY BROWSERS ON MY WORK COMPUTER. I WOULD CUSS IF I THOUGHT IT WOULD DO ANY GOOD. IF I CAN KEEP EVEN ONE OTHER PERSON FROM DOWNLOADING ANYTHING FROM YOUR SITE AGAIN, I'LL CONSIDER IT A VICTORY.

    Summary

DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM CNET UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND A DAY REMOVING MALWARE.

    "Installed Adware!!!"

    January 9, 2013  |   By rctlover1

    Version: BitKinex 3.2.3

    Pros

    Program itself works fine.

    Cons

Installing this product also installed 3 Internet Explorer add-ins without asking (or allowing to opt out in the installer). They caused IE to load much slower and a site I use containing AJAX to stop working.

    Summary

Don't download unless you want adware!

    Updated on Jan 11, 2013

Now I believe it was CNET's downloader that added the adware. Shame! And when I attempt to update the rating on this, I get an error. Another shame :(
