Version: BitDefender Free Edition 8
"Only good as a backup scanner."
Pros: Whats good about this application is theres no active protection. That sounds crazy, I know. But the purpose of this application is, for use a backup scanner only. It has a nice GUI thats user friendly and an unusual feature. It will show the file list in detail as it scans. It has a large data base and it's free. Scan times are on par with other like applications.
Cons: It has not had a version update in over a year. It runs with "XP" only. It's not very configurable. It's subject to giving false positives and it treats detections (without prompting) automatically.

Version: BitDefender Free Edition 8
Pros: Bitdefender 8 free is back-up support for your primary antivirus software. Bitdefender 8 catches most viruses and spyware. You can set it up to regularly run scans and update itself. Combine this program with avg (which it is compatible with) and you will be virus free.
Cons: Bitdefender 8 does have some compatibility issues. It doesn't work with all firewalls and antivirus programs, but if you can find a working combination you will be happy with it. Great secondary antivirus.

"2 stikes & you're outta here"
Pros: up-dates frequently, quick scanner
Cons: free version has no real-time protection, very large download by the time you install & up-date, conflicts with some antispyware-apps (spywareguard for one) and unstable as it failed to load on some re-boots and had to be repaired or re-installed....one of my favorites at one time

Version: BitDefender Free Edition 8
Pros: Very quick scan with low resource consumption (which is always nice). Frequent updates. Free. Pretty much does it job, great for those that don't 100% trust their real-time protection. Oh, and nice GUI.
Cons: No real-time protection, but still great for a second back-up scan since it doesn't take long :p.

Version: BitDefender Free Edition 8
Pros: i use this to backup avast as it has no realtime protection. it has slightly better detection rate than avast and has found the odd thing avast has not. so for me it has done its job
Cons: no realtime protection. plus when i do a scan it does not list files as it scans them(it did when i first installed it) have tried repair and reinstall still does not list them.
