"When the "pros" cannot recover your data, these guys will . . . for a price"
Pros: This product is able to let you see your hard disk drive (HDD) after the so-called pros (who know less about computers than me) can't see any data on the drive.
Excellent User Guide if you can find it at their website. It shows you exactly how the program operates with screen shots.
You can see what files are on your drive to save before you spend anything. Just make sure you do a full, detailed scan first.
You can test image and text files with their viewer before you put your money down.
One MB of recovery is free if you really want to test whether your data is still good (I was able to get it, both through the website and in the upper right corner icon on the program's interface page). I did not use it though, since I was satisfied with the previews.
The product is able to show and save your tree directory structure. You pick the directories (subdirectories automatically selected) or individual files you want to recover. It can sort them by modified and created date as well. Unfortunately, though, you can't select more than one file or directory at a time by using the shift key like in windows. So be ready for alot of mouse clicking if you want to choose individual files to recover.
A software recovery program like this is good as long as your HDD did not suffer any physical damage.
Cons: You can't recover more than a few recipies with the free 1 MB. Otherwise plan on spending just over $100 minimum on your first GB. I spent $230 on 28GB of recovered data. You need to decide how many GB to buy before you spend the first dollar. Otherwise, you will have to buy a "package" AGAIN at $20-40 plus an extra $5-10 on each additonal GB of data. The only fee you don't have to pay the second time is the $50-75 "setup fee" (a totally bogus fee anyway -- download.com did not charge me a setup fee to register).
You don't get an actual program for your computer, just an interface. They keep everything in house on their "server" and you are a "client" who pays to log in and use their program.
Other reviewers who gave it one star still said that the program works. Just be careful you bite off enough, and not too much.

Pros: I lost a raid 10 array, and this software worked better than any of the (myriad) of offerings available. I understand now why this is the highest rated and most downloaded data recovery application, after my direct personal experience.
Great app, fantastic support and documentation. Everything went smoothly and as expected. I was able to take care of the problem without waiting for software, licenses, keys or any other intrusion or delay.
Kudos, and TWO THUMBS UP for VirtualLab.

Pros: Hello,
I want to tell you a sunshine story:
I have two computers, and friday both of them crashed. Backup of one of them was on the other one, and vice versa, so it was a complete disaster for me and my company!
Windows couldn't find any logical drives on any one of them, and the local PC expert firm gave up after a few minutes. I just had to get data out of at least one of the two hard disks, and my only alternative seemed to be the national disk recovery company, charging USD3000,- for such jobs.
In pure desperation, I started to search the internet for software that might be able to make contact with my hard disk, and hopefully even retreive some valuable data. After trying a few programs without any success at all, I found VirtualLAB. After a couple of hours working on my hard disk, it revealed 98% of the files, that showed up nicely organizen in its original tree structure. I immediately paid the modest fee for retrieving the files, and it worked perfectly! A great success, that made my day! Amazing!! Tomorrow I will have the pleasure of telling the national disk recovery company, that their USD3000,- service is not of any interest to me anymore, because the USD100,- VirtualLAB software solved the problem immediately, during the weekend. Terrific!
I will gladly tell anyone about VirtualLAB, and recommend it to anyone who have serious harddisk problems. Thank you very much!
Best regards,
Dag Halvorsen

"I wish I had invented this software, I would be rich..."
Pros: I spent 2 weeks trying different programs to recover my data from an external harddrive that could not be read by my new laptop without being reformated.
What did I have on to recover?
Before I moved to Korea I had saved all my favorite songs. Hundreads of music files, a lot of graduate school papers, teaching material and other work and academic documents. It was all transfered and saved to this external HD from my old laptop that went crazy.
Well, even though it took almost 2 days to scan my 40 gig hard drive with only 25 gigs worth of information Virtuallab for windows got it all. WMA, MP3, MPEG2, all Microsoft and Hangul WP files, Adobe, instalation software, all of it.
I was very impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote a lot in the cons, not becaue it is a bad product, but because I wanted to cover all the bases. The product does what it gurantees it will do and there is nothing else I can say in the pros section that make it look any better than that.
If your lost information is important and you need it back, then invest in this product.
Cons: First, this is not cheap compared to the other programs out there, but cheaper than going to a technican, and it comes with a gurantee.
I pray I never have to go through this again. I can not afford to keep doing this.
If you are buying this product you can bet that whatever you are recovering better be worth the money and time. It is more like an investment.
Make disk backups!!!!!!!!
Recovering small amounts of information is pretty fast, but for large volumes it takes a while. It is faster than the others I have tried, but still slow when revoering large volumes.
(It just takes a long time to go through large volumes.)
If you need to recover files and not trying to recover the whole 40+ gig volme at once it is pretty fast.
This leads to the other con (maybe the only real con that reflects how the products works), you can not pause a scan and pick up later, you must let the whole thing run at one time,
I suggest you get a fast desktop. I used my laptop and I had to stop and restart several times before I realized that the last few partions on the external HD were empty and I was wasting time. When I stoped it I could recover what ever was already scanned.
You can not save those files, but you can save up to where you stoped your scan and save your files later when you buy your quota. (When you invest in this product you will understand what I am refering to when I say save up to where you stoped the scan and save files recovered.)
The online chating support service is helpful, although the wait is long they are very personal. They will speak to you in plain language. It is not like talking to human robots at some large corporation who says what they are trained to say. This is a pro and a con. I put it under cons because, I know many people might be looking for that kind of trained response service and if you are frusterated you might take it the wrong way.
