"Program moderate or at least OK, support sucks."
Version: BayGenie eBay Auction Sniper Pro 2.7.0.1
Pros
I've won over 90 % of auctions i have scheduled with BayGenie. Easy to use, automatic update works as it should.
Cons
Lately several crashes on Windows 7 Home Premium, support does NOT reply to e-mails. Tried 3 times and waited weeks, no single reply, also tried via the support form, no success. So you won't get any further support apart FAQ section on their site.
Summary
They promise you as you pay the license fee 1) the product license plus 2) support. You'll get just the other; the license, NO support.
The product mostly works as it advertised, sometimes it just won't place the bid,( and that's not because of the "buyer requirements/limitations", i always test before). 3 stars from 5. -
"Nice idea, but did not work very well in practice."
Version: BayGenie eBay Auction Sniper Pro 3.3.3
Pros
When it did work it was everything that was needed from this sort of software. Quite simple to setup and easy to use, but...
Cons
Out of 20 auctions I set it for it worked on 3, well it won 3, one of which I had made a bid on before, which then won, all of the others it either did nothing or just said there was an error and not even biding up to the full amount on 18 of the 20.
Summary
As I said out of 20 auctions I had set it up for it did not even bid on 18 of them just showing ERROR in the bid area, all of which had bids set at a greater amount than the winning bid. Two even finished without any bids at all, if I had just put in a basic first bid I would have won, which I later on did, and this was the 3rd win I had with it.
I set the bid time by hand in some cases and left it to the default (does what it thinks is best setting) for others, no way seemed any better than the other, I have no idea why it won some and gave up on the rest, but a 1 (and a bit) out of 10 hit rate is bad for freeware, if I had gave money for this I would be at someone's door asking for it back.
Give the free version a try, you never know your luck, you will need it. -
"Won't work for me"
Version: BayGenie eBay Auction Sniper Pro 3.3.2
Pros
Built in browser
Archive old auctions
Easy to learn and work
Uses groupsCons
Not making bids as scheduled
Not updating current price - even on demand
Lots of "invalid" auctionsSummary
I was looking for a software sniping program. I am not interested in an online option. I used to have Auction Sentry and loved it...I was going to get it again until I read the new reviews now that the author is gone. This was one of two programs that I tried to replace it.
There is a lot to like about this program. I really like that I can use the built in browser. I like the easy to read display. Adding a new auction is one of the easiest I have seen (literally one button). It uses the group feature - making bids on a group until you win one of them - which is critical for me.
When I pulled my watched auction from Ebay - many of them were marked "invalid" No idea why. If I was going to keep this program, I would be looking into this issue.
There were two serious flaws that made it unusable:
It would not update the current price no matter how I asked it to refresh (one auction or all of them). Not having a current price is major problem. Of course I *could* go to my browser and look at the auction, but that sort of defeats the purpose of using this program.
But the worst flaw of all is not placing bids as scheduled. At first I thought maybe it did and I just didn't win...but then I sat and watched it. Then I thought maybe I did something wrong in the settings somehow. I double checked everything: made sure I was logged in manually, double checked the bid amounts...everything. As I sat watching the program, I could watch the timer count down and the auction end. At no time could I see any visible sign that it was attempting to bid. Even after the fact it did not show me any indication of making a bid, or attempt and no reason either.
I have moved on to Plan B: Bayside Sniper to see if it works any better. -

"Good menu and relabile"
Version: BayGenie eBay Auction Sniper Pro 3.1.7
Pros
Program like these are constantly needing updating due to sudden and frequent e-bay changes. It works well becuase support for this keeps up to date, for the most part.
Cons
Don't bet the farm that this will work, I have missed on some bargains that I could have bid on manually. There is a lag time after e-bay induced changes, and the bay genie support catches up.
Summary
Excellent overall, in simple menu and navigation and support.
