    "Demo is not fully functional"

    June 30, 2011  |   By Pretzel40k

    Version: Backup Key Recovery 1.4.5

    Pros

    Paid product probably works

    Cons

Trial is limited so why limit it again to 15 days
Trial will not show you keys, only tells you it could if it wanted to :(
    Full product is expensive

    Summary

Don't call it a 15 day demo when it is a 15 day demo.

"Very focued software that does its job well."

    June 28, 2011  |   By harlanharris

    Version: Backup Key Recovery 1.4.5

    Pros

It is the only program that I could find that would retrieve (and does it inexpensively) MS Off product keys from a hard drive that was not the primary drive in a running computer.

    Cons

None with the program itself - does require some effort to get to the data in Windows 7 due to security features of the Windows software. Documentation is limited.

    Summary

I have used the software for several years and have only recovered product keys for Microsoft programs - it may be that I do not know where to look for the others. For what I need it for it does a good job. The documentation is limited. It was fairly easy to run the program from a windows xp computer but it takes some guidance to do so from a windows 7 system. If you need to run it from a windows 7 computer the first thing you need to do is right click on the program icon and select "run as administrator". This gets around the UAC feature of Win7. It may also require setting permissions on the folder to allow access and also may require to the taking of ownership of the drive. The software file is located in the same location on XP, Vista, and Win7 computers and so no problem there. The added difficulty of running the program is related to the security features built into Win7 - it is not a point and click program under Win7.
Bottom Line: for the relatively low price it does a good job of finding product keys.
