"A little sloppy on the upgrades"
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I haven't gotten to use BBEdit for all that long. I started with version 7 after getting a job working primarily on macs. It reminds me a bit of EditPlus for windows, so I've gotten quite comfortable with it, and I must say it's a great colorized editor for any of your programming needs.
Although BBEdit is great and all, 8.0.3 has at least one obvious bug. They've redone all their language support in version 8.0, but it would seem that they're still working out issues with it. I regularly use the Un/Comment Selection feature to comment out and uncomment large selections of text on many documents. 8.0.2 and 8.0 have effectively achieved this feature by allowing you to comment out each line of a selection all at once. So you can get 50 start and 50 end comment tags for each line you have selected.
After trying 8.0.3 I found that this feature was very broken (it doesn't properly remove or add tags leaving extra junk or overlooking preferences all together), and so I'm back on 8.0.2 until this feature is fixed. I'm not sure how you can both break and miss catching this feature.
Other than the problems with 8.0.3 I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an easy text/code editor.
