    "Absolutely No Complaints!"

    November 13, 2003  |   By RAngol

    Version: BBEdit 7.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
VERY useful upgrade. Check the release notes closely. Something in there for everyone and this really enhances the 7.0 upgrade. My "want" list for BBEdit is always a long one. This update made it shorter and added a few goodies I'd never thought of. This continues to be more than a mere "text editor" with its many innovations. Looking back over the years it's amazing to see all the present features.

    "The Best."

There is nothing else for Mac OS X (or any other platform?) that provides such power in such a simple-looking package. As a hands-on web developer, I would barely be 1/2 as productive without BBEdit. If you need Word, use Word. If you're a developer who needs a powerful tool to handle complex and/or repetitive development tasks, use BBEdit. By the way, you can "upgrade" from the FREE version for the upgrade price. Poke around the BBEdit site to find out how.

Love it. It's an incredibly useful tool. Their efforts to add support for two-byte and Japanese text in recent versions has been very helpful, too, and I couldn't do my work without BBEdit.

Nothing compares to this utility when it comes to any sort of text editing. Those who say the price is steep must have not explored BBEdit to it's fullest. It has more uses than my opposable thumb.

    "There is no equal"

    Version: BBEdit 7.0.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

I am a designer, not a 'nerdy-coder', and this program appeals to me like a s0nuvab1tch! LexLuthor, not everyone relies on Microsoft Word to produce their html.

If you are an html author/developer/designer and you are not using this program you are probably spewing out all kinds of non-standard markup. I am a designer, hence very visually oriented, and I avoided hand-coding like the plague for a long time. I used Dreamweaver, but tried to keep an eye on the code.

Now that I am trying to create standards-based xhtml, using CSS to control all presentation, I find myself fighting Dreamweaver's bs markup at every line. I still use DW for a lot of my site management tasks, but BBEdit is the only way to code. Once you take advantage of all the keyboard shortcuts, and browser previews, the speed of your workflow will triple.

P.S. This program whales on everything from the OS X UNIX flat files to Quake 3 Arena Configs

I use BBEdit every day for web development but probably tap into only a third of its capabilities. Yet it's still worth every penny. (The Bare Bones server does suck though.)
