"Just throwing another 5 stars onto the pile..."

    Version: BBEdit 7.1.3

    Summary

Best of its class, and Mac-only. This is definitely one of the all-time best programs. It's well-maintained and well-written in every respect. Searches are incredibly fast. One of my favorite features is the FTP/SFTP support. It lets you work on remote files via FTP or SFTP as if they were on your computer locally.

I'd have to agree...there's no reason not to learn the code and use BBEdit. It's so easy to use, and makes coding so simple. I cringe when I see what FrontPage, DreamWeaver and GoLive produce for code.

BBEdit is a Mac-must. I use it daily.

If you are going to build code, learn the syntax and use BBedit, it's hands-down the best coding tool out there for many different languages. I also use it as a text editor instead of textedit, etc. Stop writing bad code, trash your Dreamweaver/GoLive and get BBedit!

    "Unicode!"

    Version: BBEdit 7.1.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I now must use Tex-Edit for HTML much of the time since BBEdit can not handle unicode! I must also ask: "How long will it be before I can resort to using BBEdit again for all of my work? At least Tex-Edit is only 10$ and is impressivly supported and "does not suck -- again"

    "still no proper unicode support"

    Version: BBEdit 7.1.1

    Summary

Surely it is high time that BBEdit supports unicode input with keyboard layouts. As time goes by I find myself using it less and less (despite many excellent features) simply because most texts I now deal with are utf-8 encoded.

    Version: BBEdit 7.1.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
most important pieces of software that any serious user could appreciate. It can be used for almost anything that you'd expect from such an application. This program is designed for the developer, yet handles mundane tasks just as easily. It disingenuously opens almost any document with proper formatting as if self-possessed and blessed. This app is a no-nonsense industrial strength editor and much more. BBEdit is monetarily pricey for the casual user, so there's the (unsupported) lite version and TextWrangler. As with many things in life, BBEdit is a classic case of, you gits what yah pay fer.
In this case, you get more than you pay for. Do a "get info" just to see the size of this app--it's immense. The next question you'll ask yourself, if you've use BBEdit for awhile, is: 'How can such a large app be as bug free as it is.?" I rate this app as #1 for what it does, just like I rate Graphic Converter as #1 for what it does. Some editors may do a certain function or usage better than BBEdit, and that's all they can lay claim to. Overall, BBEdit does most things better than its nearest competitor. On the other hand, BBEdit has no real competition--period. This is the a rare earned 5-star app... As with all of BareBones software, it's rock solid and well engineered.
(This is not a paid review, and I do not have anything to gain from BareBones other than the priviledge of using great software.)

    "no language support"

    Version: BBEdit 7.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
the preferences pan has many options of multilingual support, and all works well under mac os 9, but isn't it time for a bbedit version that actually supports all non-roman languages in os x as well? especially since the system support is soooo good. maybe if it wasn't a carbon app...
