    "spyware"

July 12, 2007  |   By King Arthur KoM

    Version: BBEdit 8.6.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I do not appreciate spyware on my Mac. Little Snitch told me that this was trying to phone home for some reason. There is no reason whatsoever for text editing software to do this without my consent. I expect this from Windows products not Macintosh ones.

"Excellent app, appreciative of the price cut"

    February 1, 2007  |   By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

    Version: BBEdit 8.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
BBedit is truly a great text editor. While there are a number of competitors, it doesn't shake BBedit from the throne. I use it to code HTML and Java, and it is very nice for those tasks.

I also high appreciate, both the price cut for new licenses, plus the fact they the BB team offers a healthy discount for people who registered in the past (which I have).

    That makes a loyal customer.

"Perforce support doesn't work, for me, but worse .."

    Version: BBEdit 8.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
bbedit reports errors as numbers, with no accompanying text. there is simply no way to figure out what might be wrong, with just a number to work with. I know this is intended for programmers, but common! it's not like storage for string error messages is expensive or anything. this product has been around a LONG time and is rather mature, at version 8 and it's price - it should be a bit nicer about reporting problems..
there are a good number of "secret" preferences, two for perforce use, that require googling to find - they are not documented in the product (that I can find).

    "still is a beta"

not sure how BareBones let this get out the door but 8.5 (and 8.5.1) is a buggy mess.

stick with 8.2.6 or check out TextMate.

    "BBEdit with Safari"

    October 12, 2006  |   By stcato

    Version: BBEdit 8.5.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Unfortunately this version STILL does't Markup php files in Safari - other less sophisticated html browsers like Taco do and also markup using Firefox with php works fine. Barebones have consistently said the problem is with Apple Safari but then why is it OK with other editors. One would imagine it was not beyond the wit of BareBones to resolve this particular issue - Stuart Cato

"One bug they forgot to fix..."

    March 6, 2006  |   By pmccann

    Version: BBEdit 8.2.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The notorious, long standing "fugly" bug. As per the previous poster's comments, this thing still feels like you're stuck in 1999. I actually own an 8.x license but barely (ha ha) use BBEdit any more. Anyone looking for a text editor that leans toward the unix philosophy instead of towards Mac OS 8 would do well to give TextMate a spin: that's where my love lies these days. You have to work a little to get it to do what you're after, but the work is repaid many times over, because the extensibility and customisability puts BBEdit to shame.

On the up side at least Bare Bones is getting their feet wet in Cocoa, so I'd hazard a bet that a BBEdit rewrite in Cocoa is well underway.

    "Simply the best..."

    Version: BBEdit 8.2.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used BBEdit Lite and BBEdit since 1997, when I was first learning website development at the age of 15. Since then, I've used it for myriad other things, and consider it one of the most, if not THE most valuable tools I've ever used. It's an incredibly versatile program that has taken every monster I've thrown at it and beat them all into submission, making my life that much easier. Kudos to Bare Bones software for their work in keeping this program up to date and incredibly useful.

    "I love BBedit...love it I say..."

    Version: BBEdit 8.2.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I love and use BBEdit every day. If only Filemaker Pro could be as finely tuned. I had a complex job, changing a long game script from one format to another, basically, putting quotes around parts that had no quotes before and changing many elements. It would have taken me weeks to convert by hand, but I was able to do it with BBEdit and grep in minutes. I am an extremely pleased customer...

    "Can't live without it!"

    March 17, 2005  |   By dldoo

    Version: BBEdit 8.0.3

    Pros

The name says it all: *Bare Bones* and crazy powerful. When I'm bored on a long flight, I can spend hours grepping through PRDs in a test of skill. I'll ask the passenger next to me for a pattern to match--or better yet, to replace--then stand back!

BBEdit is like an old friend. Why, it's even been used to build this here Website.
