"Avira won't even install! It wants Service Pack 3."

    August 3, 2012  |   By AnthonyStarfield

It's dead Jim. There's nothing to like.

I have Windows XP with Service Park 2. Avira won't install because it wants Service Pack 3. I've read several horror stories about guys wrestling with SP 3 for hours. There is no way I'm installing SP 3 on my computer. I shall seek and find another anti-virus program.

Good Luck...There are not many Free Antivirus programs and many other programs that will work with just Service Pack 2....Most require Service Pack 3 these days.

It's not that Service pack 3 causes problems. It's when you install service pack 3 that causes the problems. If you install it right after you install XP (with service pack2)you won't be having any problem. If you install it after installing many software, then you might end up having some problems with the software that you have already installed in your system with service pack 2.

There is nothing wrong with SP 3, had it for years. Avira is rated number one for the free and the paid version in the June 2012 Consumer Reports.
